Welcome to the Block Of The Fortnight in the A Very Merry HST BOF series!
Every second Tuesday I have posted a block pattern to make a Christmas tree decoration.
Today’s block is the last one and it’s a Christmas ornament. And no, not to be confused with Ornamental!
What you will need
Traditional method:
8 – 4″ squares of background fabric
8 – 4″ squares of print fabric
Pair your fabrics up:
2 – background/background
4 – print/background
2 – print/print
Alternative method:
4 – 5″ squares of background fabric
4 – 5″ squares of print fabric
Pair your fabrics up:
1 – background/background
2 – print/background
1 – print/print
Make your HSTs by your chosen method. If you are using the alternative method, make sure you’re using a scant 1/4″ seam. Press seams open and trim your HSTs to 3″ square.
Arrange your HSTs like the following image.
Sew your HSTs into four rows and press the seams in alternating directions.
Sew your rows together, making sure your seams nest together – pin if so inclined! Press the seams open and trim to 10″ if necessary.
If you’ve made a block from this tutorial, please feel free to add it to the Flickr group!
And that’s all of them! In two weeks, I’ll post general sashing and finishing tips, but feel free to do what you like with your blocks now – I know some are doing table runners!
