Welcome to the Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway Day! Living in Japan, I can’t possibly buy all the fabrics I love and keep them… so instead I share my finds in my Etsy store. I have a range of different Japanese fabrics – text, kawaii, and more as well as a monthly fabric club – this month is Japanese children’s fabrics! And if you’re looking for some patterns to use them for, I have a few patterns too!

    I don’t know if I like Japanese food…I don’t think I’ve ever had it! Pretty sad, I know. I think I’d like anything that doesn’t have fish or seafood in it, because I don’t like either of those.

    I will admit (shamefully) that there are no Japanese restaurants that I’m aware of in Oklahoma. I do love Chinese (I’m vegetarian but fried rice, miso soup and veggie sushi are on my all time favorites list) so if it’s similar I’m sure I would love it!

    I love to go to my favourite Teppanyaki restaurant when I go interstate, and my favourite food there is the rice with egg, because they make such a theatrical show of making it and serving it- they flick cooked egg at you to catch in your mouth, and they play a game with the bowls where you have to catch them one by one as they throw them to you!

    I am not sure that I have ever had Japanese food, but I am open to trying it. I love Chinese food, but not Thai so much. Which one is it closer to?

    The only thing that I think I may have had that is considered Japanese is Terriyaki Chicken. Not much Japanese to choose from where I live. I do love the chicken though 馃檪

    I love Taiyaki! I tried it when I was in Japan from a little street cart, and I haven’t ever been able to find a decent place to get it at home, but I still remember! I’m dreaming of it now, haha!

    I love sushi (though, admittedly of the western variety – no raw fish!), as do my kids (go figure – they don’t like some other more regular foods though!). I also love teriyaki fish.

    I love Japanese food. My favorite was a bowl of noodles eaten on an overturned milk crate next to a busy street in the fish market area of Tokyo. You are so lucky to live there!

    I do not eat Japanese food. I am such a snob when it comes to food and I basically eat the same 5 things all the time. I am SO BORING. I do love rice though. Does that count? I can put tuna and shredded cheese over cooked rice and call it a meal. But I know cheese is not a Japanese food. Would love to win Japanese fabrics though. THAT I can get creaive with

    Here in Australia we call them Sushi rolls, I don’t think the Japanese do though. They are seaweed sheets and sticky rice wrapped around meat or vegetable fillings. My family loves to make our own and fill them with whatever we feel like.

    I love sushi! All kinds! BUT at our local sushi joint, Tsunami in downtown Columbia, my favorite is the Red Dragon. Oh and the Cripsy Fried Wontons w/ the cucumber salsa…OMGee! I want sushi now! Thanks for the great giveaway! I don’t own any Japanese fabric yet.

    I’ve only had Japanese food once, and it was a very long time ago, I don’t remember it. Sadly, I live in the middle of nowhere and there’s no Japanese places nearby.
    Unless you count the sushi joint. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE sushi.

    Hi I am Sandi and I live in Sonora, CA – USA. I am so glad that you are part of this Sew Mama Sew giveaway. My sister used to have a foreign exchange student in her home and she was from Japan. I really enjoyed her company. She had brought all of us scarf and I treasure this very much. I enjoy eating shrimp tempura. It is a treat and one that I don’t get to enjoy every day.     I’m half Chinese so I eat a lot of white rice. But I gotta say that I like the Japanese shorter grained rice better than the long grain that I usually eat. 馃檪

    My favorite is yakiniku, nothing beats the yakiniku dipping sauce! Plus freshly grilled meats…yum. I wish I could find any Japanese restaurant in the US that made it!

    To be honest I have never really tried Japanese food. So to say I like or dislike or what my favorite is would be very dishonest. I just like my veggies and fruits with very little meat.

    Truthfully, I have never been to a true Japanese restaurant. I do know however, that I love almost anything in Tempura batter. I also love the flavor of Terriyaki sauce/marinades and meals made from using that. Not a fan of sushi however. My adult children, 2 of them anyway, love Sushi.

    Sushi!
    Love Japanese fabric and designs. A friend of my son was working in Japan for a couple of months. I asked him to look for some Japanese quilting magazines but he did not find any. Too bad for me.

    I like those cute Bento boxes…but I think those are Korean…the beef? Hmm. I’m not sure if I’ve had Japanese. I think it was Korean. I love Asian food, and I’ve had an Octopus tentacle in my brave days. I don’t think I could stomach it now!

    We live in avry small rural town. The Japanese restruant here has limited selection on the menue. And from a little girl that goes to school with my daughter reports that although they run a Japanese restruant they are actually Korean. I order what the menu calls chicken noodles. And I love this yummy white sauce you can put on it tha tis served on the side. I also like the stirfried onions & zuchini.

    I don’t love Japanese food because I haven’t tried it. I have a number of severe food allergies, so I’m extra cautious about trying new foods.

    I dont exactly know what its called but while in Japan we were at a restaurant where you cooked all of your meats in a pot of boiling water and then after the meat was cooked you added noodles and vegetables which then soaked up all the flavors from the water. it was glorious.

    That’s a question dear to my heart since I lived in Japan for about 12 years. I think it must be agedashi tofu, but if I can be very specific it would be the nisshin soba that one finds in Kyoto. But all Kyoto dishes are delicious! And now I think I definitely need to start following your blog!

    Oh gosh, I could rave all day long about Japanese food. I really like fish & shrimp tempura. I can always go for anything teriyaki – whether that be chicken or beef. And of course, those little Japanese snacks (cookies with chocolate in the inside) are always a great treat!

    Well, I’m never tried much Japanese food. But I like rice! haha. I remember once going to a Japanese restaurant as a kid. I was going through my jumbo breaded shrimp phase (as opposed to my grilled cheese sandwich phase and my fishsticks phase). So I ordered the shrimp. I was not amused when they came with the eyeballs still attached. Bleahhhh! Promptly lost my appetite!

    I lived in Japan as a kid but I was so young that the only food I remember was candy like little grape gumballs that we used to get. I do really like the tempura vegetables and teriyaki chicken that I have gotten from a local restaurant.

    I’ve not really tried Japanese food. Living in backwoods of northern Maine, our ‘global’ experiences are limited. I have tried sushi…is that Japanese? was visiting a brother and he loves the stuff…I didn’t mind it too much; would just have to have it more often to figure out what I like/dislike I guess.

    I love going to the Tepanyaki grill. I love that all the food is cooked in front of you so you know it is fresh and yummy! When my son was young he would beg to go to our local restaurant and wanted to take a friend…Why you ask? Because none of them would try the food and he got lots of theirs! Sneaky little devil!

    I (actually the entire family) simply adore Sushi. Although it tastes a lot better when someone else makes it – but we quite often make it at home too. A little Japanese restaurant has opened here in Coffs and I am dying to go and try it out – just waiting for my sister to come visit so we can try it together.

    I am sorry to say that I have not had any (authentic!) Japanese food, although my son has learned some dishes from a Japanese chef at a restaurant he worked with. I have a wonderful new Japanese daughter-in-law and I am hopeful that she will show me some recipes!

    My niece worked at a Japanese restaurant in the city and it is our favorite place to dine… but darnitall if I can remember a dish that I loved! Since it is a new spot to dine and we don’t get to the city often, I can’t say that I have a favorite but the meals we had were delish!

    I am not an adventurous eater – I am the second-most picky eater in the world, I think (next to my 13-year-old son). For that reason, I have never tried Japanese food. I am not proud of it… but it probably won’t change.

    I lived in Japan for three years when I was a kid. I remember our Japanese housekeeper teaching us how to make several dishes but our favorites were Gyoza and Yakisoba. To this day I still prefer my rice sticky. Beautiful fabric! Thank you! anglanouette(at)gmail(dot)com

    After my trip to Japan 3 years ago, I just LOVE almost all Japanees food! sushi, fresh backed rice cookies, those vegatable fritters, okonomiyaki, tempura shrimp…. Jammie! Can’t wait until my newborn is 1.5 to 2 years old, as we will be going back!

    Can’t wait to get my kids to sit at a sushi Kaiten and watch them enjoy all those nice fresh sushi!

    I love Botamochi (I think that’s how it’s spelled?) Does look a bit funny but tastes absolutely lovely!
    Second favourite ( I should hang my head in shame at this one) Mcdonalds grape fanta! I lived off it when i was younger, do they even still serve it?? I’ve not found it in the UK, but to be fair i haven’t looked especially hard.

Being a vegetarian and allergic to soy does not make it easy to find food in a Japanese restaurant (in NY everything is cooked in soybean oil, or has meat)… I’m sure I could make my own veggie tempura perhaps if cooked in canola oil, but I don’t eat much fried food and don’t know very much about other veggie Japanese options! Most Japanese food I am familiar with is based around seafood or another form of meat. Perhaps you could suggest some veggie dishes I could try to cook myself – nothing spicy, please! 馃檪

    Japanese food, too. I have a decent collection of kawaii and beautiful lunchboxes that I use every day. My favourite easy thing to make is onigiri, with umeboshi in the centre. I have a special triangular shape box for them!

    I’m not super familiar with Japanese food .. I’ve only ever been to one Japanese restaurant and I don’t actually remember what I ordered! Except there was green tea ice cream, which I didn’t like. (I like ice cream, I like green tea, but I didn’t like the two together!)

    Honestly, I’m not a big fan of Japanese food mostly because I associate it with Sushi and I just simply don’t like Sushi. Maybe it’s because I grew up land-locked on a prairie farm in Canada and really only ate whatever we grew or raised on our own farm, except for some other grocery items. I didn’t even try seafood until I was 19 and the taste just never appealed to me.

    I just went out for an amazing Japanese lunch with work colleagues yesterday. I adore a Bento box full of lovely creations – just so you can experience a little of everything. My favourite…. probably tofu agedashi mmmm or maybe an okonomiyaki?

    I like tempura because it is light and fluffy to eat. I also like many of the rice noodle dishes but do not like sushi.

    I tried Japanese food for the first time the other day and it was so good! My roommate is from Korea and she had a Japanese friend over, so they cooked Korean and Japanese food. I’m not sure what it was all called, but I really liked the sushi!

    Chicken katsu, hands down! Next is a bowl of rice with different sorts of sashimi on top. I can never remember the name of that dish in the restaurants.

    I don’t know if I like Japanese food or not. There is a lot of seafood that I won’t eat [squid, octopus, dangerous fish, any shellfish, etc], and I’m not a fan of raw fish, so I suspect that I may not like all of it. But I haven’t investigated it either.

    I LOVE sushi. unfortunately I live in the back of beyond in rural Wales and have only tried the supermarket ready made variety. Every time I’m in the nearest city I want to go to a proper restaurant but my husband is not too keen!

    I’ve tried Sushi from Marks and Spencer and I loved that. I’ve been in Wagamama’s in London and had some sort of soup with bits in it but I wasn’t over joyed with it. there aren’t any Japanese restaurants anywhere near where I live in England.

    I have no idea what my favorite Japanese food is- I like eggrolls, pad thai, sweet and sour chicken, but I’m pretty sure that’s all Chinese or Thai food. I need to expose myself to some new foods!

    I was never a real big fan of Japanese cooking, but my boss was and many times it was her choice for a lunch.. so I learned to eat Sushi and we did a few company dinners at the restaurant grill where they have a chef do the show as he is cooking your food… that was fun and good…

    A friend of ours made sushi for us once and it was very good. I haven’t eaten much Japanese food probably mostly because I have a bad MSG intolerance and we’d have to find a restaurant that we were sure didn’t use that. I’d like to try it, though! I’ve heard great things about some of it.

    I don’t think I’ve ever had Japanese food except at Mikata Steakhouse and funny as that is I love the broth they bring with cut up onions in it.. I just love soup.
