Poor Melissa has been waiting since April for her Big Ben block from me!! I hit a design wall and shelved it away until, oops, June. Thankfully Wombat Stew decided to have a respite month in May to help people catch up on blocks, because I wasn’t the only one a little late with blocks! So I decided to just bite the design-bullet and tried the pattern again. I went for simpler and it worked! So it’s not a perfect representation, but the fabric choices make it work, I think. Well, especially when my 4 year old son exclaimed loudly that, “Mummy made the clock from Doctor Who!” Proud parenting moment right there.
Gina was June’s Wombat and asked for arrows and feathers in coral, pale pink, gold and aqua and in any size on a low volume background. Such gorgeous colours to play with!! I am lacking in coral, and my aqua supplies are rather depleted, but I love the creative freedom of this kind of guidelines!
I drafted up my own 9″x12″ straight feather and then used a fine-tuned version of the pattern for the second one!
Hence why I started the Pin-Prov Bee! Adrianne asked for cat blocks up to 24″ square in size, but it didn’t need to be a square. I sat in the 6th floor Starbucks at Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in the world, and designed this block. As you do while waiting for your sister and co. to go up. She shared this Pin for colour inspiration, which was a little challenging to work with, but I love the creative stretch! My stash juuuuust met the challenge for that green – it’s actually quite a yellow-green without being too grassy or too mustardy, and it was a toss up between an Alison Glass Feathers Sunprint and this Tula Pink Acacia print. Tula won due to a higher saturation and a touch more yellow! The pink is from Bliss by Bonnie & Camille and the navy is a Kokka Treffle print. These gorgeous little kitties finish up 14″x24″.
