Today is the day, that very exciting day, when the first issue of Make Modern comes out!! Three of my wonderful Wombat Stew paper-piecing bee girls are the creators of Make Modern – Australia’s first digital modern quilting magazine – and I know they have worked so hard to get it all together.
I am also rather excited to share my contributions. I have designed a 12 -month (6 issues) sampler quilt called Aurora – a star quilt block sampler quilt! Each issue I will be sharing 2-4 different star block designs that will come together to create a gloriously starry quilt! Each block is a great design to play with different shades of colours or to use a feature print and pull out coordinating colours. Don’t worry, I walk you through these design decisions! A huge thanks must also go out to Kate Spain and Moda for providing the fabric – Horizon and Bella Steel!
This is a sneak peek of the first two blocks – if you make them, be sure to share them with me on Instagram @blossomheartquilts!
Each issue, I will also be writing a column – Maths & Methods. I will be talking about that tricky subject of quilt math, a big love of mine, and then showing you how to put into action (hence the ‘methods’!). This month we’re talking about how to successfully scale up or down any block pattern – pieced or paper or applique!
And for this first issue, I am also so thrilled to have my profile featured! The Make Modern ladies asked some real good meaty questions to sink my teeth into and make me think about my answers. So if you’ve ever wanted to know more about me, and I mean really know about me and what makes this quilter tick, then check it out.
What is so exciting about this magazine, is that it is a real magazine. I love reading about quilting and quilters and the industry, and I actually do buy magazines for the articles *wink wink nudge nudge* And Make Modern is exactly this – lots of articles and features and topics to read about, not just beautiful patterns. Plenty to sink your teeth into! You can preview the issue, just like you would at the shops! Then go buy Issue 1 now, or save and subscribe for 6 or 12 months, or even pre-order issue 2 (November 1st) now so you don’t miss out on it. You know you want to!
