A few months ago, Frances (aka Miss Matatabi and fellow Tokyo Bay dweller) contacted me asking if I’d be interested in making a quilt for Kokka’s newest quilting cotton range for Quilt Market and other trade shows. Uhhh, yes! Tick that one off the quilting bucket list! So a few days later, a delicious package of fabric arrived and I started scheming. The quilt had to be a certain width to fit their booth plans, and I had been sent a few differently-sized cuts of fabric to puzzle together. But thankfully, they were all the right size to get one or two 5″ x 10″ flying geese rectangles from each piece!
I knew that I needed to add movement and interest, so I flipped a row over, and then followed the zigzag of the blocks with my straight line quilting.
The backing was some Bella Snow (I think?) and the scraps – you can also see my first ever quilt sleeve that I painstakingly hand-sewed on! I also hand-sewed the binding – the teal and pink plaid from Lighthearted.
You can read more about my creative quilting journey over at the Kokka blog! And if you’re at Quilt Market this weekend, snap a pic of it for me! I’m also linking it up to the Blogger’s Quilt Festival in the Original Design category – voting opens November 1st if you love mine the best!! I am also entering my Bright Sky quilt in the Large Quilt category.

I’m so jealous of you making a quilt for quilt market – this is on my bucket list too. (Also directly related to “Have my own line debut at Quilt Market” – can’t design to save myself, but it’s on the list!) This is great and proves that a simple block can be used with great effect. Love the quilting detail too. Well done!
