Welcome to the first Block Of The Fortnight in the A Very Merry HST BOF series!
Every second Tuesday I’ll be posting a block pattern to make a Christmas tree decoration.
We’re starting with an easy one today – tinsel!
What you will need
Traditional method:
8 – 4″ squares of background fabric
8 – 4″ squares of print fabric
Alternative method:
4 – 5″ squares of background fabric
4 – 5″ squares of print fabric
Make your HSTs by your chosen method. If you are using the alternative method, make sure you’re using a scant 1/4″ seam. Press seams open and trim your HSTs to 3″ square.
Arrange your HSTs like the following image.
Sew your HSTs into four rows and press the seams in alternating directions.
Sew your rows together, making sure your seams nest together – pin if so inclined! Press the seams open and trim to 10″ if necessary.
And you’re done! One down, five to go. If you’ve made a block from this tutorial, please feel free to add it to the Flickr group!
