Earlier this year, I completed a reversible baby girl quilt using a layer cake of Amelie by Me and My Sister for Moda. I love using layer cakes for baby quilts as it means there’s some leftovers for me too! When we first moved to Japan and I was using a borrowed machine, I decided to pull out the scraps and just make something up… Two months later, it’s finally finished!
Another bright and pretty baby girl quilt! It’s sweet and pretty, but the blues and greens make it pop all the more. Most of the four patches were already pieced and leftover from the last quilt, as well as some precut strips. I just made it up as I went along, agonised over the layout and am now very happy with the outcome. And with only a couple of layer cake pieces left in colourways that didn’t match (dark blue and black), I only just had enough, phew!
I decided to do a scrappy-like pieced backing to match the front and I found these beautiful Doodlebug Design prints that were just perfect! Not too matchy-matchy, but coordinating nonetheless
Like the last quilt, I used a light purple thread for quilting, and each type of block has different quilting. The strip-pieced blocks have a single outline 1/4″ inside the outer edge. The framed four patches have two outlines – a 1/4″ inside the outer edge and 1/4″ outside the four patch. The square-in-a-sqaure blocks have three outlines – inside the outer edge, outside the inner square, and a 1/4″ inside the square.
I love that my neighbourhood is perfectly bland in colours so as to show off the beautiful colours of this quilt!
The sweet binding makes me smile every time I see it – birdies, hedgehogs, toadstools…

Such a gorgeous quilt! It’s funny how pictures make quilts look much smaller than they are! =D
