TGIFF: Fruits and Flowers

Yesterday was our 4th wedding anniversary, and it was me who got it wrong – I had 3 years in my head! But no, it’s been four years since the best day of my life. Each year I use the traditional or modern anniversary gift list (depending on which is more applicable!) to guide what I give Ben. This year was fruits and flowers. For ‘fruit’ he got a pear. Not joking. But for flowers? Well, he gave me 4 long stem roses, and I gave him a mini quilt. As you do.

I used Tula Pink’s LOVE quilt pattern and Washi by Rashida Coleman-Hale to make this mini, and a cherry blossom print I have had in my stash for over a year awaiting a special project. And I think my husband deserves my special fabric!

I cut it Wednesday night then pieced and quilted it Thursday. If I could change just one thing it would be to make the centre of the ‘O’ block one of the grey Washi prints instead of the white to up the contrast. The dense quilting in the white and border helps, but not quite enough in my opinion.

I was running out of time and indeed had to close the door of the playroom/sewing room on my husband for 20 minutes after he had gotten home to finish it! I decided to pull the back around to the front instead of binding. My mitred corners are hopeless, but I’m practising!

And most importantly? My husband loves it.
