Ah the quilting! See all those square loops in grey? Not free motioned. No sirree. Every. single. corner involved putting the needle down, lifting the foot, turning the quilt, foot down, sew, repeat. A labour of love. Especially considering I had so many tension problems because of all the stop/start.
But playing with my Aurifil for the first time made up for the generic grey thread headache. So smooth in my machine! Not to mention that the colours I had won almost perfectly matched Simply Color and Bella Turquoise! And the wavy pattern was nice and smooth and the thread handled a few tight turns easily.
In the sky I zigzagged – again, not free motioned! I used the same light variegated blue as I did for th elight blue in the rainbow, and I love the effect and added dimension it gives the sky!
This is the most quilting I’ve ever done on an item and I am in love. Just looking at the texture on the back makes me smile! And I purposely used the coloured Aurifil in the bobbin too so as to get the rainbow effect on the back – which worked!
The threads I used from were all 40w and were:
- Pink – 5002 (more a salmon/coral pink which worked well to add a reddish tinge to decrease the difference between the pink and orange fabrics)
- Orange – 2145
- Yellow – 3920 (variegated)
- Green – 5017
- Light blue – 3770 (variegated)
- Dark blue – 1128
- Purple – 1243

It’s beautiful, Alyce! Well done! Love the quilting you did on it too — every turn and start/stop was worth it!

Loved your cute Moda Candy mini quilt. You did a great job and I liked the binding a lot. I can’t image all that stopping and starting you did to quilt it, but isn’t it rewarding to know you actually accomplished the total project. Thanks for sponsoring the giveaway!
