What comes first, the pattern writing or the pattern making? Or both?
When I designed the Totoro pattern (well, sketched up and sent to Kristy to put it through EQ7!), I wrote the pattern after I had made it. Right now, I’m writing up a new pattern. Twelve of them in 2 different sizes. To say my head is swirling with inches and numbers and maths would be an understatment!
This time however, I had already sketched out the design to scale and then wrote the pattern from that. I’m now working my way through making it and correcting as I go. I don’t know if this is the most efficient method or not, but it’s really working for me! Pattern testing as I go.
Speaking of patterns – go check out the gorgeous Cuzco cushion paper pieced with 2.5″ mini charms. Yup, it’s possible to do so! Especially by the paper piecing maestro, Kristy at Quiet Play. Plus there’s a free paper piecing pattern and another $25 Fat Quarter Shop gift certificate for you too!

I just do it is as I go. If I have an idea that might translate well to a quilt pattern, I take notes as I work, and LOTS of pictures so I can remember what I did and have photos to include where it’s needed. I probably take too many pictures if that was obvious from my tutorial, lol.
I cannot wait to see what you are hatching!

It does seam easier to write it then make the item and change things as you go along. It’s often harder to make something and then write about how you made it afterwards =D
