Welcome to the Sweet Treats Blog Hop, where myself and 5 wonderful bloggers will give you some ideas for using those adorable new mini charms from Moda! We each have 2 mini charm packs and a half yard of coordinating fabric to use, plus any bits and pieces like binding, or backing or whatever else our projects needed to finish them off. After this week, you will have 6 complete patterns or tutorials to follow to create your own mini charms masterpieces!
I’m super excited about my project. Even though the idea for this blog hop came whilst staring at a mini charm pack of Vintage Modern, I knew I needed to use Simply Color by V & Co. Playing with little bits of rainbow is what my dreams are made of!
What you will need:
2 – mini charm packs of Simply Color
1 – fat quarter Bella Turquoise
1 – fat quarter backing – I’ve used a multicoloured spots from Timeless Treasures
5″ x WOF binding – I’ve used ‘Girl’ Small Chevron by Riley Blake Designs
Optional: 7 – 1″ hexagon papers
From your mini charm packs, you will need:
– 4 pinks
– 4 oranges (optional: 7 oranges)
– 5 yellows (optional: 9 yellows)
– 6 greens
– 7 light blues
– 8 dark blues
– 9 purples
– 13 greys
Cut your Bella Turquoise into 2.5″ strips and subcut into the following lengths:
1 – 8.5″
1 – 7.5″
1 – 6.5″
1 – 5.5″
2 – 4.5″
2 – 3.5″
3 – 2.5″
4 – 1″
Arrange your squares and strips like the following image. I found it best to have the more solid grey prints in the corner, and work out from there.
Sew together in columns, alternating seam directions as you go.
Sew the columns together, pressing seams open.
Optional: Create a hexagon ‘sun’ (flower) using a yellow square in the middle, and alternating orange and yellow around the outside. Applique to the backing.
Layer your top, binding and backing. Baste, quilt, bind!
I love the cheery little sun on the back! Sure it’s now hanging on my sewing room wall and I can’t see it, but these mini charms are the perfect size for hexagons, and just knowing that it’s hiding behind my rainbow makes me smile!
Rather than overload this post with photos, check back here on Friday for TGIFF where you can get the full scoop – detail photos, highlights, frustrations and all!
Check out the rest of the hoppers throughout this week! Each blogger has a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop to giveaway for you, and come back here on Satuday for the grand final giveaway of a $50 gift certificate!

Anything with aqua makes me happy as it is such a cheerful colour, love the name of it too. I like doing mini qults as I am still very new to sewing and find large projects daunting, so I am really looking forward to this week.
