Hooley dooley, it’s October. That means it’s almost 1 month until my son turns 3, almost 2 months until our first guests arrive, and 2.5 months until Christmas. It also means that the third quarter FAL is done and it’s time for Fresh Sewing Day, and all that kind of end-of-the-month-recaps and new-month’s-plans business.
For my Third Quarter FAL, I finished:
- library bag cum stroller bag
- my son’s transport I-spy quilt
- I didn’t need to make a sewing machine cover as I won one!
- I finished the Japanese stitchery, but it’s still a UFO as it’s just sitting there all stitched and unfinished
- I made the kids a paper-pieced transport cushion cover – it’s nice and cushy for the couch, and also the perfect thickness to boost my bum on my sewing chair!
- I continued with my BOMs and am up to date!
- Good Fortune quilt still has had NIL progress at all. But it’s on my (100 Day Hustle) list to be finished by the end of this year so we can use it in winter!
I’ll post my official 4th Quarter FAL list later this week…
So, onto the awesomeness that was September and the cool weather it brought in relief from our hot and humid summer!
It seems to have been the month of the blocks! I had hoped to do a Japanese block each week, but only managed two. Plus the next 2 HST BOF blocks, catching up on the In Color Order BOM, and September’s FQS Designer BOM. I also finished my paper piecing Totoro pattern which is now available on Craftsy! My quick-finish potholder which came together ok, but not 100% happy with it’s functionality. Need to tweak it a bit. And last but not least is my anniversary Washi LOVE quilt – which was favourited by Rashida herself on Flickr thankyouverymuch!! What a thrill!
And as for October? Well, there’ll be some of this:
- My Sweet Treats Blog Hop project is due on Sunday… I’d better finish quilting it!
- Keep working on my sister’s quilt – it’s all cut, and then re-cut as I realised a minor math error whilst trimming a ton of HSTs. Thankfully I noticed it before I had trimmed too many! Instead of trimming to 3.5″ I had to re-trim to 3″. Such is life.
- More BOMs, BOFs and Japanese blocks
- Work on a new pattern – with a blog hop next month for it! There we go, announcing it should help keep me accountable!
- Maybe tweak the potholder and try again.
And whatever other random things I decide to tackle this month. Maybe a pram quilt for my sister if I need a quick-ish “big” finish!
PS – just one more day to enter the handmade giveaway!

Hi Alyce! Love all of your projects. As the mom of a little boy, I esp. was drawn to your son’s transport quilt and cushion cover. So adorable. All of your finishes are gorgeous! 🙂 xo
