When I start quilting last year (the last day I can say that!) I never imagined myself to be here. Where’s here? Well…
- Seven incredible months of blogging! I am besotted with the quilting bloggosphere – such an incredible community full of fun, support and friendships!
- Meeting a wonderful bunch of Aussie women and forming not only beautiful friendships, but a paper piecing bee – Wombat Stew! Ladies – thank you so much for including this expat in all your fun going-ons!
- Designing patterns and having people actually buy and make them! Sew Seasonal was so overwhelming, seeing all the creations made from my pattern. And to those that joined in for A Very Merry HST BOF – thank you! I’ve loved seeing everyone’s blocks and finished products.
- Living in Japan and sharing the fabric love. So the living in Japan part wasn’t such a surprise, but I never imagined having a little Etsy store selling Japanese fabrics, let alone starting up a monthly Japanese Bundle Club! I can’t wait to go shopping for it!
- Getting published in a magazine – it was such a thrill to see my pattern in Fat Quarterly!
- Joining an online bee through Quilt Club Australia on Facebook. It doesn’t start until January though! And ironically half of the girls are the Wombat Stew girls.
I am not one for New Year’s resolutions, but I’m definitely into setting some goals to keep me focused on growing throughout the next year. Quilting has truly been such a force in my life, helping me to overcome my perfectionism that usually makes me fear trying new things. I’m determined to keep pushing on!
- Try curved piecing – This one is definitely a mental barrier as I know it’s not as hard as I’m making it out to be. Any beginner pointers or pattern suggestions are welcome!!
- Begin FMQ – I still need to find out whether or not my little Ellie can even take a FMQ foot, and am planning on finding out in person when back in Australia in February. Oh how I hope so! Because I am so impatient to start!!
- Keep on designing – I already have one in the works to be released in January, not to mention a few tutorials in mind/in process for the blog. And whilst I’m proud of my ability to do this using just Microsoft Office, I’m saving up for Electric Quilt 7 to streamline this process!
- Support the quilting community.
- Host and participate in more blog hops and other fun community blogging events – I just love joining or hosting them! It’s like a virtual party.
- Be published more – It’s a little addictive, seeing your name in print! I especially hope to get on Moda Bakeshop this year.
I’m sure there’ll be plenty more fun things happening around here that I haven’t even thought of or dared to imagine. Bring on 2013!!
And to finish this off with something a little different, have you seen this video of behind the scenes at Robert Kaufman?? It’s so fascinating to see the whole fabric design/printing process!! And there’s a postscript on their blog too about why they print in Japan or Korea.
Happy New Year to you and your’s!
