I had hoped to have the doll quilt all done for today, but a lack of inspiring binding options in my stash has meant procrastination. But I do have this oh-so-fancy tissue pouch I whipped up out of 2 charms for Jonathan at preschool. He has to have a hanky in one pocket, and this in the other. Plus donate a box of tissues to the classroom. I think he’s covered!
I want to thank everyone who has supported this mama via here, Instagram and Facebook as I sent my first baby off to school. It’s been a busy week getting ready. We had his entrance ceremony on Wednesday – there he is wearing his winter uniform. A blue long-sleeved smock (with the aforementioned two pockets), a grey beret-ish hat and his name badge. He’s in kotori class – baby bird class – and his class colour is pink. The girls wear a pink smock, and from what I have seen, the done thing is to accessorise the smock pockets. When Isabelle starts next year, I’ll add some lace or trim to the top edges!
His first day yesterday was not off to a great start… And little sister was NOT impressed that she didn’t get to go on the bus too! But when I picked him up at 11, he was very happy and had had a fun time. Today’s bus trip was all smiles, and his morning just as fun. Next week I have to pick him up at 11am everyday, then the next couple of weeks at 11:30, and then from mid-May he will catch the bus home at 2pm. That means for the next month or so, I have to make a 1hr+ round trip that includes walking there, waiting, extra play time and walking home.
After an initial cry, I’m doing fine now. Enjoying it even! It’s so much quieter at home without his constant questions, talking, noise-making, barking, running… Despite the long walks to pick him up, I’m not so tired at the end of the day as I’m getting the mental break from life with a 3 year old! I’m even making friends (a big deal for this happy introvert) – a Taiwanese mum introduced herself on Wednesday. IN ENGLISH! Jonathan and her son had a lot of fun playing and chasing together after pickup, and she has a 2 year old daughter too. So hopefully this is the start of a beautiful friendship!

I knew it would all turn out good – it’s when they would rather be at school than with you it hurts more!
