Have you heard of this fun linky run by Beth from Plum and June? Well now you have as it’s my turn to guest host this marvellous linky! What’s it for? A little bit of getting to know you through the fun way to link up (details below) and a little bit of sharing what you’ve been up to. For those who are new to this little patch of the interwebz, you can get a quick synopsis of who I am on this page! The brief points being I’m a mama to two little monkeys, we’re Aussies living in Japan for 3 years for my husband’s work, and I love to quilt.
And I must admit that I haven’t made anything new to show you today since the 20-minute library bag as this weekend has been full of adventures with Mother’s Day! But instead, I have something to share that’s oh so very important to the quilting world…
As of last Wednesday, we have been living here in Japan for a year. A year! The time has flown, and yet it has been such a full 12 months. And in those 12 months, we did not own an iron. Yes, I am ashamed to admit it – a quilter without an iron. Bee blocks were sent untrimmed and unpressed because I know how squishy international postage can be. My own blocks, I just Clover-pressed the seams and hung them up to let gravity do its thang (which it does quite nicely!). Until yesterday…
Oh yes, for Mothers Day, I “hinted” for an iron, and I got one!! And my blocks rejoiced… I put it to work last night pressing some fabric for the shop so that I can take photos today of nice and smooth fabric. I then pressed my first Modern QAL block, ironing one tricky seam into submission.ย
What have you been making lately? ย
1. Link up any recent sewing/quilting post – progress, finish, whatever!
2. In your post or on your blog, please include either a text link or a button letting people know about this link up.
3. Visit at least the two bloggers who link up before you and everyone who visits you from this post – I will make my way through the list this week!
4. When the link tool asks for your name, write down the name of your most wanted sewing notion/thing – now that I have my iron, my sights are set on a new sewing desk that is the right height!

I love my Clover finger presser – I think I’m converting to finger pressing over ironing my seams. Controversial I know!

Such a cute picture of your little girl. Was she posing for the photo or did you just catch her like that?
I wish I could live without an iron (for clothes not quilts)

Lots of plus points to not owning an iron but a handy quilting tool!

Lovely new iron on lovely fabric. I also have a relatively new T-Fal iron. Previously I had a T-Fal that lasted over twenty years and was knocked off my ironing board at least once. Then I had a different big brand name iron that lasted less than three months before it started leaking and it was babied and never dropped. This time I bought another T-Fal … long may they press. Thanks for hosting the Monday Link-Up … ๐ Pat
