Yes, it is almost the end of July and I am posting about June’s blocks. Yes, this means I was late finishing them all and yes, given how I hate being late with things for other people and the potential of disappointing them, this has been a big frustration! But I was sick most of June, with the kids having colds too, and then visiting family for 10 days at the start of July, plus the blog move… I barely did any sewing! But June is now caught up, and I have 3 days to get July’s done. Wish me luck!
First up we have Megan’s Star. Technically for July’s Modern Blocks QAL, I’m sharing it now while it’s still July so I can link up! I had some accuracy issues with the centre square/triangle combo coming in undersized, and it’s not the first time I’ve had size issues with these blocks. I’m not the world’s most perfect piecer, but something about these blocks is dropping 1/4″ everywhere! Oh well, they look pretty!
Lisa asked for Broken Herringbone blocks, and untrimmed so she make them all the same. This was a quick piece and I had the green Color Me Happy bundle from Sew Lux Fabric so I could use a range of values of greens.
Round 2 of Wombat Stew started last month, with Melissa starting us off asking for the Refractatorium block by Quiltjane. We slightly adapted the pattern to get the continuous black outline strip, and I had fun picking out bright, Midge-y prints – some Art Gallery, some Kate Spain…
Lastly was a Road To Fortune block for Kelly. After a false start using the wrong grey, it quickly came together. Looking at it now, that red looks very saturated, but it does look lighter in real life.
And this is just one of the 3 blocks I need to get done for July… It measures 18″ x 24″ and has a crazy number of sections. I designed it myself, so I only have myself to blame! Not to mention a big Octagonal Orb block with almost 100 pieces to cut, or my first ever curves. Wish me luck!

Good luck!!! If it makes you feel any better I still have blocks that aren’t done from as far back as March. I haven’t given up yet :). I’m hoping you will be sharing your pattern for the castle before too long;)

You have been busy! Love all of the pieces you’ve created lately. That castle sure does look challenging, but I know you can do it. Looking forward to seeing what fabrics you select, and it pieced together.

Good luck! I love all these blocks (I have only just completed a ‘Megan’s Star’ – must link mine up too!). Have you seen Joshua’s Broken Herringbone blocks? http://www.mollisparkles.com/ Such a great block – looks amazing with the white or black sashing. The Refractatorium and Road to Fortune blocks are beautiful! I often see blocks that I think are fabulous, but these two go beyond that and make me really want to make them!! I think I might have to continue with my Bee’s until I have quilts made from all the lovely blocks on my list!!
