It’s A Housewarming And You’re Invited: Day 1

I want to thank you all for hanging in there through the past couple of weeks of moving and errors and little posting – I hope you all like the new joint! And to celebrate, let’s have a party!

    So far I like it. Mostly because it is streamline and refreshingly different. Everyone uses the same blogger, I like wordpress and not as many people use it.

      The Search function has always been important for me too – especially for crafting/quilting blogs when you want to search for tutorials or projects or such!

    Alyce yay! Your on the other side. Now I know you are looking for constructive criticism to make the place look perfect, yeah?
    Okay well first of all, I love the colours 🙂 I am a teal girl. The header is lovely, love your phrase.
    To be a total nit pick, your picture link doesn’t work, its linked somewhere wrong? I tried to go to your about me.
    Also the only thing on the whole sidebar that looks out of place is your ABC quilt along button, because its a different size I guess?
    Last of all, your page tabs aren’t different enough from your post heading, they look so similar, it can be a bit confusing at first glance.
    Hope I didn’t offend with any of that, because overall I think you have done an amazing job! 🙂

      Thank you so much Toni-Maree! I Fixed the picture link, will set my husband on to the page tabs and I already know the Easy As ABC button looks a little out of whack as I can’t get it to centre! HTML works weirdly on WP at times 🙁

    I love the look and your “tagline” is just perfect!! I always get confused when the comment box is at the top of a post, but found the place to click in no time. Congratulations!!! Can’t wait for you to fill up that Tutorial tab 🙂

    Thanks for the giveaway! I like the design as it seems very clean, especially with the white margins on each side. It seems fairly simple to navigate. I can’t see anything that detracts.

      I know what you mean, but hopefully it’s just the fresh lick of paint that just takes some getting used to! If you have any ideas of how to make it more ‘homely’ let me know!

      Isn’t it funny how colours work?! For me, red is the more old fashioned colour, and pink is bright and modern. Thanks for your feedback! Hope it’s not too much of a turnoff 🙂

    So far I like it!! Love the new header and the colours you picked! No mention of anything Japanese in your tagline tough!! Maybe your tabs cold be a bit more clear – I didn’t notice them until I went back up to see if you had them. Well done!!

    Hi Alyce ……..congratulations on making the move. I love the new site it is crisp and clear. The font and script are great. The colour choice is beautiful. Love the use of the text boxes and grey background. A minor suggestion, I would increase the text density if possible – its a little soft. Have fun and enjoy your new home.     I think your move went very smoothly. Other than a few posts reappearing on Bloglovin at the start, easily marked as read again, I haven’t come across any glitches or problems.The site really is looking fab. Congrats again on your new home 🙂

    Does it sound strange if I say it seems brighter. I think the clean look is really working. It is so easy to negotiate and wander around. I really enjoyed looking around again and the search function works like a charm.
    Only disappointment was the “Coming Soon” on the tutorial tab – but I guess that is just me being impatient.
    This is a really good site, looking forward to seeing where you go in the future.

      Haha, sorry! My old tutorials page back on Blogger wouldn’t just copy and paste as WordPress doesn’t like the coding I used and I haven’t had the time to code it properly yet. But starting from scratch means I can organise it nicely into categories – quilt blocks, sewing tutorials, etc

    I love how easy commenting has become! I hate the blogger comment box. I use my iPad to read and comment and for some reason it never let’s me sign in with openID. Being a wordpress user the separate fields for email and website are great! I love the chevron accent next to your picture. I’m not in love with the color scheme but I think it’s because these dresses my mother put me in as a child polka dot and stripes and teal and purple and black and white and matching ( to my sister)! Haha

    I love the colours, and the clean shapes you’ve used. I particularly love your little ‘follow me on’ buttons. Maybe the links to your other pages (About, Tutorials, Sponsors, etc…) could change colour when you rollover them with the mouse? It might make them stand out as links more clearly? I don’t know how easy that would be to do, though…

    You’ve inspired me to take another look at my cluttered blog. My favorite things are your social media buttons and quilty chevrons. I’m always torn between using a strange font I find appealing and accepting that it might be difficult for readers to interpret…Plus I wonder what the tone “sounds” like to visitors. Yours sounds focused and friendly, by the way.

      Aw thanks Kristin!! As a general rule of thumb, use a “clean” font that’s clear and easy to read for all the important bits, but then have some fun for special bits here and there. For example, after reading all the great feedback, I’m going to add in a “handwritten” type font here or there (my tagline for instance) to add some more personality!

    Thank you for the search bar! Easy to read on my phone do far. I was more fond of your old log- warmer feel to it and it was unusual. Gave it a home made feel. I am tiring of the logos everywhere that are tri- colored symbols that don’t evoke any feeling. The supermarket store brands have it, the hospital logo, the bank… Love it otherwise -I didn’t sugar coat it!

      I did indeed ask for honesty, thank you for your feedback!! My problem is I get bored with my blog designs and need to change things up. Creative ADD if you will 😛 Yes, this one is very different indeed, although still “quilty” in a more abstract way! But that’s why I’ve got some chevrons and circles around the place too – keep it a bit diversified and meaning I have some “options” when designing blog graphics or for my patterns, etc. Who knows, maybe in a year’s time I’ll change to triangles arranged in a circular flower. We’ll see!

      That’s alright, I asked for honesty! If you have any ideas for how it could seem more warm, let me know! I have used “cool colours”, which probably lends to that impression.

        Well, I think that maybe it’s because other than the photo of you on the sidebar, there are no actual images in the banner. Just the graphics, which are quite stark. I’d suggest using serif fonts instead of the san-serif, (serif fonts are more welcoming) and/or maybe putting some shading onto the graphics…let them cast a shadow or give them some texture or depth. Just a couple of ideas, since you asked! In short, I think you can keep the clean minimalist look but make it a bit warmer simply by adding texture/depth to the fonts and/or graphics.

    I like your new look. I like the uncluttered look that makes it easier to see what’s on it. Sometimes blogs have so much info, ads, links etc. squeezed onto a page that it just gets confusing. The older I get, the more frustrating that gets. So thank you from a reader that likes things clean and streamlined.

    Hmm, honestly, I tend to only go through a blog’s website when I first find it (gotta see all the old projects too!!), or if there’s something specific on their blog I’m looking for. The last time I was on the page it looked so much different! I really like the new look, though, and I’ll come back in a few days and explore and see if I have anything else to offer up ♥

    Love what you’ve done with your new home but I can’t say that I’m a big fan of WordPress – I do most of my blog reading on my mobile and have always found WordPress more difficult to read.

      I haven’t set any mobile devices template, so it will show the full blog normally. The idea is that it makes it easier to comment because you don’t have to sign in anywhere, as I’ve never been able to comment on Blogger blogs on my mobile for that reason. I hope it’s not too hard for you!
