It’s been a while since I’ve WIPped it up! But now that the sewing machine is whirring away again, I have some WIPs to share. This week I’m working on July’s Bee blocks, and those following along on Instagram or Facebook will have seen my progress as I go!
Gina’s fairytale castle is come along nicely. Each section is quick and easy to piece, there’s just a lot of them! I spent a long time pouring over what fabrics to use, and I was glad to discover a large scrap of I-think-it’s-Caramel Sketch to compliment my yardage of Latte Sketch. Same same but different. Seriously, Sketch is a paper piecer’s best friend! So versatile!
I’ve also spent a long time fussy cutting and piecing for windows, and to make sure the sky Sketch is all aligned the same way when piecing it on an angle around tower roofs. Fiddly but so worth it! The hardest part was choosing what colour to use for the tower roofs. I originally was thinking blue like Cinderella’s castle, but that would get lost in the Sketch sky. After some consultation on Facebook, I settled for this purple print from Summersville Spring. The lattice looks tiles!
I am also looking for pattern testers – I need a couple of willing volunteers who are happy and able to test the pattern for me within 2 weeks of receiving the pattern (once I’ve finished piecing mine, I will write it up properly). The pattern isn’t complicated at all, just lots of sections so it’s best if you have some prior experience in paper piecing. Just leave me a comment if you’re interested and I’ll email a couple of you!
So excuse me while I go finish up and then get stuck into the last July bee block… I maaaaay just make it in time! In some timezone in the world, anyway. Talking of the last day of July, that also means it’s the last day to:
- Pick up the special bundle of Ornamental and Sew Seasonal for the special bundle price!
- Link up your Easy As ABC quilt blocks!
- Order your cool-coloured Japanese Bundle Club!
Linking up to Freshly Pieced!

oh my GOSH Alyce, that’s just fabulous, I really love it. Love the Little Apples children you’ve used in the windows – I’ve used the reading girl and the hoop girl a lot in my sewing. I would love to test it for you – but when does the two weeks start ticking? We’re getting the inside of the house painted soon, and life will be a little chaotic – not sure how much good sewing time I will get – I might have to wait until you release the pattern for sale! Hope everyone is healthy again at your house soon.
