I have started cutting piles of 2.5″ squares for the Totoro baby quilt, and couldn’t resist starting to sew some tree together. I’m really happy with the mix of prints! The perfect mix of browns, if I do say so myself. Only about another million squares, HSTs and half-rectangle triangles to go…
The second Japanese baby quilt to make is a ninja baby quilt. I’ve previously shared the ninja fabrics I purchased. I bought these back in May, planning to stash them until whenever my sister had her next baby. After the loss of Ariella in January, I wasn’t sure when this was going to be, but I figured I’d buy some I Am Ninja now, and then just wait. Turns out I didn’t have to wait long – these arrived beginning of May and on Mother’s Day, I got a Skype call informing me I was to be an aunty again! I then had to sit on such awesome news for about another 10 weeks until it became public knowledge, and now that it’s time to start planning the quilt, it’s the right time to share it with you! How I feature these little ninjas and use the panel, that’s the tricky bit. I may even share a little bit of my precious sushi bento print…
And why ninjas? My sister and her husband have an ongoing “fight” about ninjas vs. pirates. He’s ninjas, she’s pirates. So seeing as she got a polar bear quilt for Ariella using Laurie Wisbrun’s Brrr! line, I figured it was time for my brother-in-law to have a look in. But shhhh – I did buy some of Sarah Jane’s Out To Sea boats in blue and pink so there’ll be some pirate action happening somehow too.
