Welcome to my stop on the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 8 blog tour! For those of you who are new here, an even bigger welcome! I’m Alyce, and to give a you a brief synopsis of my life – I’m an Australian wife, mum, teacher and quilter who is living in Japan for a few years while my scientist husband does science and I revel in Japanese fabric. Currently that includes waiting impatiently for the International Yokohama Quilt Show on Saturday – I’ve blogged about last year’s show, and the 2013 Tokyo Quilt Show, and you can bet your thread-covered pants I will be blogging about this year’s too! I also sell some of my Japanese fabric finds, but what I’m most passionate about is quilt designing.
I am obsessed with designing – graph books full of geometric designs and other patterns spied around my world broken down into quilt blocks and quilt designs. With two little children, it takes a while for these designs to turn into fabric, but when they do, you can either find them on Craftsy or on the tutorials pages! And now, also in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazines!
I’m so thrilled to get my first block into this magazine, and this block is oh so very “me”. Not only did I use beautiful, saturated tertiary colours from Cuzco by Kate Spain and Laura Gunn’s Painter’s Canvas, but Diamonds In The Sky is not just a star quilt block! It’s a sneaky block that creates a secondary design when you put 4 or more together for a little “modernitional” awesomeness…
More stars! And diamonds! Now you can see why I nicknamed this block “Lucy” while making it.
It would also make a fabulous Christmas star table runner by making them half-sized and changing the colours around a little. Or if you have a loooong table for entertaining a large crew, leave it full sized!
A few more block ideas…
1. Diamonds In The Sky – A beautiful selection of saturated colours!
2. Choose just two colours – Pink and purple for a princess.
3. Monochromatic – A dramatic quilt of grey solids.
4. Merry Christmas!
5. Red and blue and white stars – Patriotic colours for a range of countries!
6. Stars aren’t just for girls! Light blue, navy, green and orange would create a lovely boys’ quilt that won’t be outgrown by them anytime soon.

Love your block and the ideas you’ve shown! On a side note, I have followed your blog for a long time via GFC, but it seems that sometime after Nov 3 your blog posts quit showing up on my dashboard. Has something changed? Do I need to follow by email now so I don’t miss your posts? I don’t use another blog reader.
