I’ve slowly been working down my list of things to do, and for once, generally in order of priority! The next thing to start working on is the quilt for the Lala Salama – 100 quilts for Kenya project. Quilts have already started being finished around the world and you can see a lot of them on the Facebook page for the project.
I have already begun to make a collection of fabrics, including picking up 2m of backing fabric from Tomato late last year. It’s an Anna Griffin print – a designer I don’t think I had heard of before finding this print, but it seems I really like her designs because I kept finding myself pulling out a bolt of fabric and discovering it was by Anna Griffin again! I used the backing and the inspiration bundles by Julie to help guide what shades of green to pull/buy and am adding a few soft, light aqua blues to the pile.
I’m still tossing up design ideas, but I am leaning towards a rectangle patchwork with a bit of colour gradient happening. A quick and simple design, but still fun to make. And also fat quarter/scrap chunk friendly, which is important when making a 60″ x 80″ in a fabric fast!
It’s still not too late to make a quilt if you’re interested! We’re only about 15 off from our target of 100 new, handmade quilts to cover the beds in the pediatric ward. You can read all about it here and we’d love to have you aboard!
