Welcome back to Sew Cute Tuesday and Happy New Year! I’m not a superstitious person, but the excitement of a fresh calendar definitely helps motivate me to get moving. But not in the exercise sense, the sewing sense! Here’s a to a new and exciting year of more creating, less procrastination online, and no fabric buying. For the first 6 months anyway.
This first linky for 2014 is a special one! Being the first one since Christmas, when you could finally give all those handmade presents you’ve been slaving away at over the year… err, month?! … I’m opening this linky up to share all those presents! One post would be easiest, but if you’ve already blogged about them, link those posts up instead then check out everyone else’s posts. Maybe you will find a great idea to Pin away for this year’s Christmas presents!
My handmade Christmas presents were minimal last year. I made two infinity scarves for a work Secret Santa and my preschool mum friend, and am totally addicted to how easy these are to make!
Just 1 metre/yard – fold in half to match the selvages, sew into a tube, twist into an infinity scarf, sew the tube almost closed, pull through and machine stitch carefully to close the gap. Five minutes max!
I also made this pillow cover for my parents. I made this curved block previously which my mum had admired, so I simply bordered it, lightly quilted around the circle and used a zipper closure so it could be reversible to show of the maroon Japanese print.
It took too long to arrive and was more a New Year’s present, but they love it, so that’s all that matters!
The final Christmas present I made was for my Wombat Stew Secret Santa, which I’ve already shared about.
And my first finish for 2014? The Rising Sun baby quilt, which I’m absolutely ecstatic to announce already has a little owner!!
Little Levi William was born January 4th, which meant I was able to personalise the quilt label using a Kumiko Fujita calendar panel and also pop a few little Japanese baby boy clothes into the parcel before sending it yesterday. Don’t mind the tiny puckers!
Your turn to share your Christmas makes and presents! I have my Pin button at the ready! Don’t forget to link up and share some comment-love around.

Yay that Levi arrived! I also just pinned your sewing machine cover and mat combo. What a fabulous idea; I’m constantly losing my supplies in the jumble of fabric on my table, so this would be the perfect solution.

Congrats on a great finish to start the year! You must all be so relieved and excited about the little guy’s safe arrival. Your scarves are very pretty too.

Hi Alyce! I love the scarves you have made and the pillow which has so perfect finishing with the zipper. For the scarf, do you leave the turning opening on the side or on the edge? Great idea those pockets on the sewing machine cover! Thank you for hosting and have a lovely week! x Teje
