Do you know what’s really hard to find? True light blue fabric. Aqua/light teal/turquoise abounds in the fabric world, but a true light blue? A sky blue? Very hard to find! As you can see, my stash is in colour order, and includes yellow green, blue green, and kinda sort light blue piles. But honestly, out of all of those, the only fabrics I would say are closest to being a true light blue are 3 prints.
And of those 3 prints, two of them are from Botaniques, the third being Sketch in Sky. Many people complain about purple fabrics being hard to find/buy, and yes, I understand this. But for me, I need more light blues in the fabric world please!

There’s a lot of true blue in the Kaffe Fassett collection, but not the cheapest way of stocking up on fabric!

It’s amazing how a fabric fast will highlight the areas of our stash that are lacking, and for that matter, the areas of fabric in general that are lacking!

It’s always interesting to me how these things stand out when I go looking through my fabric stash as a whole. So many prints seem to fall into more than one category. Is it blue? Is it aqua? I can’t always tell!

I have had the same problem. Hope to find more ‘sky’ in the future. x Teje

I think we all have “holes” in our stash. I seem to look for a color a year before it really hits the market. It is frustrating when you cannot find what you need for your project. Keep looking – I’m sure it’s there maybe not exactly what you want. I’ve been looking for solids – true solids – not fabrics that read as solids. I went to a LQS and she literally had 3 fabrics in the store. She realized that she doesn’t like solids, she likes fabrics that read as solid. I specifically want solids because I’m making a Grandmother’s Flower Garden in which the center is a solid yellow, then the first round is solid and then the next round is a print. I can find solids and often have to buy 1 yard minimum. That’s a lot when I need 2″ of fabric. I don’t want to add that much fabric to my stash. I understand your dilemma.

It’s true, a light blue with no aqua, a cobalt with no navy or aqua and Kelly/grass green with no lime or too light/too dark. There are definitely holes in the beautiful “modern” fabrics that we all know and love.

Oh I agree! I made a rainbow broken herringbone quilt last fall, and my blues ended up being calicos from the local fabric chain, reproduction (30’s) prints, and the blue sprout print from Madrona Road, which is essentially a modern line with a strong vintage feel. And one print from Honey Honey.
