I believe this is my second-to-last set of Japanese preschool bags! This order included 2 massive bags with 4cm gussets, which I interpreted to mean boxed corners measuring 4cm from the corner. The finished size is 40cm x 58cm! One for my friend’s daughter, another for her son. I got to go shopping for these fabrics, which certainly adds more fun to making them! She wanted nothing “too sickly girly” for her daughter and something darker for her son, knowing it would get dragged on the ground.
The son also needs a bag for drumsticks – hehe, poor mummy! A 4 year old learning drums… Nope, no envy here! I was able to use some leftover shinkansen (bullet train) fabric from my son’s transport I-Spy quilt for this one.
And finally a futon cover using fabric she provided – a super soft fabric, almost like flannel but much thinner. Also, I love putting in the metal snaps! The very final snap gave me a big headache and wasted about 10, but other than that, it’s satisfying to feel that click is they pop into place.

Can’t imagine a four year old drummer! My son is a drummer, but he’s 11 and didn’t start until he was maybe 7 or 8. All the fabrics for the bags are beautiful. I especially love the space theme one.

Haha…your comment on the 4 year old drummer made me laugh out loud! I hear you about the snaps. I gave up and got heavy duty snaps, way overkill, but at least the pliers work accurately every time. Cute bags!!

Lots of sewing. Maybe you’ll need the selfish sewing week coming up 🙂 How do you out in your snaps, the little device or pliers?
