On Monday, I had the most amazing opportunity to catch up with a friend I have known since I started college! She has been a big blessing in my life and one of my kids’ most favourite soft toys (a classic Piglet) was from her. You know how special soft toys are! She even took my husband for Korean BBQ in Washington DC when he was in town for a conference. But despite all this, I have never actually met her myself! Kids these days and their online friendships…
She was stopping over in Tokyo on her way to the Philippines and asked if she could crash at our house for the night. Of course!! She wasn’t arriving until late in the day, so to help distract myself and fill in time, I decided to make her something and at the same time, try out a new pattern. I used the boxy pouch tutorial at Pink Stitches but adjusted it to suit the gold zipper from Daiso – I cut the panels at 8″ x 10″ instead. The print is from Bekko by Trenna Travis for Michael Miller. It’s apparently a canvas, but it’s not very heavy at all, and is actually quite soft. I used a green print from Bekko for part of the backing of my Lala Salama quilt!
I forgot to get a photo of the lining in place, but it’s this beautiful blue and metallic gold Japanese print. I also have it in pink and it’s just as pretty.
I really enjoyed making it! It came together really quickly, and the tutorial is pretty easy to follow. Just be careful when sewing the side seams – it gets quite bulky near the zipper ends!! Definitely add it to the Quick And Easy Gifts list of things to make.

Love that pouch, it’s a great tutorial. That zip looks gorgeous too, I wish they weren’t o difficult and expensive to find over here!

This is really cute. I love that tutorial too. Love the way you quilted just half of it. That was a great idea.
