I recently took part in the Aussie Kate Spain Charm Swap. My love for Kate’s fabric has long been widely professed, so my participation was a given! I have also long-harboured a desire for a purely Kate Spain patchwork quilt, and have been collecting her fabrics to do just so. This swap has saved me a lot of cutting of fat quarters and layer cakes!!
Melissa, the host, is now holding a Kate Spain Charm Along. I don’t have time now to make my patchwork quilt, indeed I want to wait a little bit longer to collect a little bit more of her collections! So instead, I cut into my Sunnyside layer cake and some fussy cut Honey Honey to make up my Simply Helixed table runner. That tutorial is specifically for doing a rainbow one, should you want to just use any charms, you only need 9 print charms!
I then used some Honey Honey yardage for the backing and Cuzco for the binding. I almost used a navy Tsuru print but decided to keep it all Kate. I certainly don’t regret it! I quilted just the background in a mid-grey Aurifil 2610, in what seems to be becoming my favourite swirly designs. I tried for a more pointed swirl this time, to emulate the wind and swirls in the Sunnyside prints. I am definitely a fan of free motion quilting minis – so much more manageable! I need to do it more often to practice.
For once, this is mine! We have a low side table in our bedroom that needs a bit of a tidy up, and due to our temporary status in this country and thus not really decorating at all, our room could also do with some colour. Some subtle blues should do the trick! It’s also a place that gets a bit dusty, so the light grey background should hopefully help disguise that a bit.

It’s lovely Alyce. The back is beautiful – I think you should reverse it every now and then on your little table!
