When my witty and talented friend Laura asked if I’d be willing to help spread the news of her brand new quilt pattern Plum Crazy, I of course said yes! I’ve never met her in person, but she’s one of those people that I know I would have made good friends with even if we didn’t share this quilting passion – I just love her wicked sense of humour! Anyway, sappy stuff aside, I had hoped to sew up a mini Plum Crazy and even did the math, but alas, time ran out! Instead, I have this delicious bundle of fabrics that I pulled for a full-size 9 block Plum Crazy autumn quilt.
I have been really pulled by the idea of having a quilt just for autumn. The weather cools rapidly here in Tokyo, and it’s already quilt-on-the-sofa weather at night – my toes are getting cold! But while I love the warm, autumn colours on the trees, I don’t really do orange fabric so much. It’s usually so hypercolour! Instead, I love the moody plum purples and pinks, with the contrasting of earthy yellows and even a dash of brown.
I had started pulling fabrics just using a vague theme in mind, and when I went to pull some purples, I found this Bohemian Soul by Pat Bravo print – it’s the perfect inspiration! Browns, mustards, purples, pinks… I only have a half metre of it though, sob! Otherwise it would have made the perfect border!
You know I love a good fat quarter bustin’ pattern *coughBrightSkycough*, and Plum Crazy is another fabulous option! Laura has done all the brain work to arrange the fabrics carefully so that each individual print doesn’t end up being next to itself at all. That’s hard work, folks, as we all know. And she’s done it for you! This kind of pattern is great for playing with colour and using some small-scale prints; perfect for using up the many blenders lying around or fat quarter bundle remnants! You only need 6 prints to make the single/twin size. Go see the pattern testers’ quilts for great ideas of what you can do!
For this week only, Plum Crazy is on sale – just use Plum20 to get 20% off and start bustin’ those fat quarters! Go check out the other blog hoppers’ posts – you may even find some giveaways…
