This week’s blog hopping QALer is the lovely Ms Midge!! As you know, I got to hang out with her last week and go shopping at Nippori! On her list of things was to try and find a backing for her Bright Sky quilt that she has made using Nightshade by Tula Pink – not an easy range to match, it seems…
And talking of spooky fabric, one of the Bright Sky QAL sponsors – Southern Fabric – is offering a $25 gift certificate to one lucky winner to help celebrate all things ghastly and Halloween! They’re currently hosting 13 spooktacular days of sales and deals, like 99 cent mystery charms, free shipping, 25% off storewide, free gift cards and precuts, and more! So check in daily to see what the bargain is for that day only!
To enter, simply leave a comment suggesting which purple or green print from Southern Fabric Midge might like to use for her backing.
Giveaway closes Sunday 26th October 12pm (JST) and winner will be contact by email and announced on Monday’s Bright Sky QAL post.

Oh tricky. You don’t want anything too pretty either right? Perhaps the pure Heiloom by Joel Dewberry? Good luck Ms Midge!
Rebecca says
I like the Heirloom (JD54.AME) by Joel Dewberry for a matching backing.
Delaine says
I like the Stitch Square in Orchid. Thanks!
Lynne Tilley says
I like Aviary Lilac, Joel Dewberry….
LINDA says
HI, this is one of my most favorites: “Trendsetter – Stars – Mint” (C3993-MIN) by Fancy Pants Designs for Riley Blake! Thanks for sharing!
Snow says
Hmm, I think for the purple, I’d go with either Fox Field – Botanica – Dusk or Gypsy Caravan – Hammock Stripe – Wine. For green, Bumble – Forest Stripe – Sprout or Fox Field – Vintage Stars – Shade.
Kathy Davis says
I would pick the True Colors Wood Grain Violet by Joel Dewberry for Freespirit.
Vicki H says
I think I would go with Absinthe PWTP17.
Erica T says
I would go with Tula Pink Vintage Stars in Shade.
Kathy E. says
Purple is my go-to color choice for anything! I love purple. I would choose “Ta Dot – Dots – Orchid (CX1492-ORCH-D) by Michael Miller for Michael Miller” for my backing. Thanks for the giveaway!
Sarah says
Fox Field Hoppy Dot!
Cheryl says
I will go with purple, too, and choose Brambleberry Ridge – Knots & Loops – Lilac .
Emma Jane says
I loved Ms. Midge’s version! and choosing backings is one of my favourite tasks ๐ I’m thinking Brambleberry Ridge Trading Post in Quartz might be a good choice!
Pam says
I think Fox Field Botanica Dusk would be a good choice. Thanks for the eye candy and the chance to win a certificate from this great shop!
diane beavers says
Gypsy Caravan – Ditty – Cat Eye by Amy Butler for Westminster Fabrics
Michele T says
I am partial to Folklore – Abigail – Celery (11486 12) by Lily Ashbury for Moda.
Heather says
The Fox Field Pointed Lace Dusk would give Ms Midge purple and green, and the grey/olive shades.
Anita says
Purple, Quattro Grande is my choice.
Julie says
I think this would look great.
Heirloom – Yardage (JD54.AME) by Joel Dewberry for Freespirit
Janie says

Chris says
I’d pick Fox Field – Botanica – Dusk (TP047.DUS) by Tula Pink for Freespirit. Love this one.

Lisa barclay says

Monique B says
Quattro- Grande Purple. ๐ So pretty!
Beth T. says
I might choose Joel Dewberry’s Woodgrain in Violet. It’s not an exact match, but for the backing you don’t really need that. It would be interesting enough but not compete with the front, and it’s the kind of pattern that can coordinate with whatever mood the front conveys.
mary says
Ooo I’d definitely go for True Colors – Woodgrain – Violet by Joel Dewberry, I love the textured look it has and it’s not too plain.
Jeneta says
I agree – that isn’t the easiest range to find a backing fabric for! The backing fabrics that I think would complement the front without detracting from the overall feel of the quilt are:
green – Heirloom – Tile Flourish – Green (JD49.GRE) by Joel Dewberry for Freespirit
purple – Heirloom – Yardage (JD54.AME) by Joel Dewberry for Freespirit
Both have enough complexity in their designs to be grouped with the Nightshade range without being too cutesy. I really like the Tile Flourish print – I think it’s floral design complements the background of the cameo fabrics in the Nightshade range.
lisa says
Oh I think it should be the eve shade pwtp17.
Arianna M. says
I’m not sure how the colours would match up, but Heirloom or Mary Thistle might work.
Sherry VF says
I think busy backings are more forgiving. So, something like Ta Dot โ Dots โ Orchid by Michael Miller would be nice. svonfumetti at yahoo dot com

What about Tula Pink’s Foxfield Botanica in Dusk? Hard to tell exactly, but it may work with her colors.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Marti says
I think that Dumb Dot in Sage by Michael Miller would look good, it ties the black and the green together. I also think that Meadow Lark in Loden by Heather Bailey would look really nice, it ties the pinky-purple, cream, and green together. If it were my quilt I would back it in a solid voile, but only because Nightshade reminds me of a Gothic Marie Antoinette and her over the top luxury. Good luck to Ms Midge!
Sandra says
I think the Soul Blossoms – Dancing Paisley – Limestone would be lovely as a backing.
Vicki says
I’m thinking that they “Pretty Potent” in purple would be great!

Okay this could be tricky, I do not know if we should take away from the beauty, but I do not want it too drab. So I think what I am going to go…..with…..Quattro – Piccolo – Fresh Grass it is not to over powering and it is still pretty too.
Melanie c says
Brambleberry ridge flight in orchid

Since there is a lot going on with those fabrics I would choose a solid or something with very little pattern like Scrumptious – Bias Stripe – Lime or Snuggles – Lavender. I love her print choices!
