Seriously, thank goodness it’s Friday. I don’t think I’ve stopped for a week… Last Friday, my husband was supposed to return home after a week away but plane issues led to a delay, than a plane change, and then a cancellation. So he arrived home Saturday afternoon instead. Without his luggage. That was couriered out to us on Sunday, though, and all these travel issues has meant travel vouchers which will be used for my Quilt Con trip!!
This week was full of deadlines to finish… which of course meant life happened! The highlight of my week was Monday – when my husband completely surprised me with a day off work to take me out on a date! I’m hard to surprise, but he got me good. We had so much fun just hanging out and talking in daylight and more importantly without kids! Since moving here, we’ve only had date nights outside the house when people are visiting, and only one whole night away. So this time was really precious! This is us having a ramen counter meal at long last – it’s too tricky to take kids there! But oh so delicious, and we’re determined to go there more often as it’s near his work so we can meet for lunch during school days!
And then this happened. Both the cushion and the sick boy. As I’m writing this on Thursday night, it’s Day 3 of a fever for my little guy. He’s happy enough and eating and drinking, just has had a temperature for 3 days! It’s actually been quite nice to have my happy little man around this week, even if it’s sad that he’s sick. And as you can see, I finally finished off his cushion! I’ll share that properly later when I can get it back for photos 😉 So after Monday being out, I’ve had to balance cuddles and movies and Doctor Who with sewing time… Yeah, hard life indeed
But somehow through all these events, I have managed to get all my deadlines done – the next Aurora installment for one – and even get ahead on some tasks! Including catching up on bee blocks, and some Christmas sewing (which you can see a sneak back peek above).
The final big event for this is week is our preschool’s sports day tomorrow – a huge event in the Japanese school year! The kids practice for weeks, and everyone brings picnic lunches and snacks… it’s a very important social affair. So hopefully my little guy is all better so he can join in. He will be so sad if he can’t!
But look!! Shiny new quilt pattern from the awesome Ms Midge! Her dash is much more awesome than my dash this week… A charm dash! As the name implies, it uses charm squares with the bonus fact of no wastage! So it’s perfect for fussy cutting prints for the centre, plus using up those charm packs you’re hoarding.

I do hope your son is well enough for sports day. I had similar issues a few weeks ago when my son had to see a doctor but was desperate to run in the cross country (definitely didn’t get that from me). We got there just in time. I hope you make it too.

Hope your son is feeling better soon. It’s so hard to see our little ones sick – but it’s great that you’re focusing on the silver lining (cuddles!) It’s funny, this week I’ve really been missing not having Hubs at home and I’ve been dreaming of some lazy vacation days together. Your husband sounds like a keeper – love a man who can surprise his wife! I’m in love with Ms Midge’s pattern too – need to get a wriggle on and finish my version of it.

Oh Wow! That is a busy week. Sometimes we work better under pressure though even if it’s not ideal. I hope your little boy is better. My four yr old often comes down with a fever for days and nothing else. So weird. I find it’s nice to be around to nurse them and spoil them. I find my little guy is so much better behaved and loves his cuddles even more. Lots of TLC works wonders. I enjoy hearing about your time in Japan. Fond memories of my time down south in Kagoshima 20 yrs ago. Btw love his cushion.

Yay for date nite! So nice that you and hubs got some special time alone. Phooey for sick son. At least he gets to cuddly with his new cushion.

I am reading things all out of order as I catch up. I hope he recovered for the sports day!
I know some amazing restaurants in Tokyo worth trying for the next date day/night, including a fabulously reasonable and delicious lunch spot in Jiyugaoka.
