Please excuse me today with some super sweet Disney magic dribbling…
I signed up for the Disney Quilt Swap 2015 on the last day, and made it in! Since moving to Chiba/Tokyo, and having now gone to Tokyo Disneyland and Sea several times, I’ve finally understood the magic of Disney. I didn’t watch many Disney movies growing up, I KNOW, so I’m a slow developer in the Disney sense of the word. But seeing my daughter fall in love with Ariel and Cinderella, and my son with Lightening McQueen and Dusty Crophopper, and oh the joy on their faces when they saw Nemo and Mary Poppins in the parade… Yup, sucked right on in into the magic of Disney! Their current obsession are the 5 Tinkerbell movies on Netflix. So I’m really excited to find out what magic arrives next January! Oh yes, we have until after the crazy Christmas period to get these babies in the mail… I like this swap!
I don’t have much specific information from my partner other than her general love for Disney, and Jessie from Toy Story, so I’m thinking maybe a Disney castle or maybe try something different and do a princess as she does have lots of those on her IG feed… I have some applique things in mind!
I have had great fun creating a Disney swap inspiration board for my partner too, just in case she finds it. Seems I really like the more “modern” look of Disney – a bit abstract, a bit imagination-ey. I’m sure I’ll be adding more when the Disney urges strike!
PS – I just found out today that Tokyo Disneyland is having a special Frozen theme from mid-January until mid-March! I guess we’ll be going to Disneyland early next year again, just because LET IT GOOOOOOOO!

Ok. Thank you Tokyo Disneyland now my number one destination if I win tattslotto. Disneyland is magical at every age. It’s the one thing I have to do for my kids – take them there.

You missed Disney movies as a kid? Eek! I think my childhood is to blame for why I still have a soft spot for the old movies, and Snow White singing coloratura.

ohh! I wish I had known about this swap, I love Disney!! I’ll be watching this to see what you make! Is there a hashtag I can stalk?? You should check out the disney story origins podcast. It’s my new love. He explores the stories that inspired the disney version and compares them.

Wow, can’t believe you weren’t into Disney as a kid!! Did you have another kid obsession instead?!
I was really drawn to the minimalistic posters for quilt ideas as well and chose one to make for my partner and I have all of these ideas on how to personalise it. My partner isn’t super active on IG but from her survey and my Disney obsessed imagination I’m full of ideas! I want to make it now but I’m holding off until at least November so I can finish of a few other things first. And so I can think more on how to tackle it!

Hi! This sounds so much fun! I’m fan of Disney’s movies and in fact just watched one yesterday: ‘Saving Mr. Banks’. It was really good. Story is based to Mary Poppins – one of my favourites with Julie Andrews. I’m looking for to see what gorgeus things will be made with this theme! Have a lovely weekend! x Teje

I think that you are pretty lucky to be able to go to Disneyland (and your kids are too!). I am in the process of making a Disney quilt – at her request – for one of the teachers at school. It’s actually for her daughter – who is about 28 years old! I noticed that you have a paper pieced Tinkerbell on your inspiration board. You’ve probably seen this blog: http://www.misha29.com/p/disney-princesses.html
There’s even a Jesse block! x

A frozen theme? That does sound magical!! I grew up in Orlando surrounded by Disney and it shocked me when I found out my husband hadn’t seen the classics as a kid. I’m slowly making him watch my favorites! SO. GOOD.
