A few weeks ago, I posted about the massive problems facing those of us selling digital products to EU citizens starting January 1st. With Etsy and Craftsy still not forthcoming with any workable solutions and instead leaving the responsibility of collecting, reporting, etc all VAT sales to us sellers, I have had to seek out other alternatives. As I am not equipped with the time, money or resources to set up the necessary systems to do all the VAT stuff myself (for example, collecting, report and storing two pieces of evidence of a customer’s location – aka data and privacy and security!), I will be closing my Craftsy pattern store. This is heartbreaking as you know I love Craftsy so much, and the pattern marketplace has been brilliant for helping bring in customers itself without much assistance from me. This year, I sold over $1000 of patterns on Craftsy alone! So this is a big loss for me.
But, I do have solutions now in place! I will keep my own pattern store open for all non-EU customers and for those in the EU, you will be directed instead to buy your patterns from Patterns To Print.
Samantha has put in a mammoth effort to set up her new digital patterns store – Patterns To Print – in record time so that there is now a solution for PDF pattern sellers. She is taking care of all the official VAT business things so that us “international” pattern sellers can still sell our patterns to EU citizens. You can find all my patterns in store now, alongside patterns from other designers including Imagine Gnats, Clover & Violet and Emmaline Bags! More will be added over the coming months, and if you are a PDF pattern seller who would like to still be able to sell to the EU, do get in touch with her for more details.
To celebrate, you can get 20% off all patterns using the code HELLO15 until December 31st! And I should add that this store is open to all customers anywhere in the world. You can even choose which currency to view the patterns in – GBP, CAD or USD! So go check it out and bookmark it for future reference!

It’s unreal that Craftsy and Etsy are doing nothing. Do they not realize that this is going to hurt them as well? Not very smart business moves if you ask me. On the other hand it looks like Samantha is making a brilliant business move! I am so glad you found a solution to the problem. All the best to you for 2015!

I have just taken my patterns of Craftsy and Etsy too. Hoping they will come up with a workable solution so I can list them again sometime. I *think* my own store is now set up correctly. Such a mess!!
