This year is the final year of the Japanese Colour Club *sad face* Because next year we move back to Australia *happy/sad face* So I wondered how I could make it a little bit more special to remember this amazing time in my life *think face* And then I had a fun idea *aha face* Let’s sew the rainbow!
Each month, I will share the prints I chose for the bundles – there will be 6 fat eighths, mostly standard quilting cotton blenders with the occasional novetly-esque print or heavier weight cotton or cotton/linen blend, but still all within the colour family theme of the month. Why? Because I want to send a bundle to one of you to sew up and share the tutorial here on Blossom Heart Quilts to inspire others to “sew the rainbow” too!
Yes, that’s right, I’ll send you fabric and you get to play with it! You can use neutral (cream, white, grey, black) solids or neutral low-volume (again, light cream, white, grey) prints to compliment the fabrics, but no other colours. The bundle colour must be the feature!
I will choose a winner 3 days after the post goes up and send the fabric straight away. You will then have 3 weeks from the arrival of the fabric to sew your item and send me the tutorial blog post. So please keep that time frame in mind when choosing whether to enter or not – do you have the time to commit to this deadline?
Giveaway
To be in the chance to win the fabric, you just need to leave a comment on the post with your project idea. Be specific, be unique, remember to feature the fabric and the colour! For example: “I would make a baby quilt” sounds lovely, but “I would make a Valentine’s wall hanger with appliqued hearts from each print” is what would win it for you*. I will pick a winner January 24th and let them know via email.
*NOTE – this tutorial would be going up too late for a Valentines Day theme, so that angle/theme isn’t going to work 😉
I’m so excited to share the Japanese fabric love with even more people!! And I really want to encourage you to just give it a go, even if you’re afraid of writing a tutorial. I’ll write up a template to follow to help guide your writing, and I’ll be here to help you along the way. So be brave, share your ideas, and good luck! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Oooohhh I just had a thought. That traditional Japanese fabric top left made into Japanese kanji for love appliqued on to squares of the other fabrics as a mini quilt. Although the initial thought of needle turn appliqué might have to change to something different – blanket stitch perhaps?
Jeneta says
I really like that idea! Perhaps the applique in black so that it stands out on each of the red fabrics?
Alyce says
Winner winner chicken dinner!! This is a beautiful-sounding project! Please let me know your address and I’ll send the fabrics this week!

I’ve got a drunkard’s path project on my bucket list and these would make for a nice two-colour play with a twisted drunk mini.
Jeneta says
Hmmm…I think I’d make sunglasses cases with the flexi strips at the top that snap open and closed. Perhaps two – maybe three – fabrics for each case.

I’d like to make the ‘we are never getting back together’ quilt as seen here: http://stopthatowl.blogspot.de/2013/02/i-hate-valentines-day.html
Carla says
Oooh! Is that what is coming in the club? Whee hee!
I haven’t a brilliant idea, but I have a hint that might inspire others: the Japanese text fabric has the characters for the seasons (spring, autumn, winter, summer).
Joy says
I would showcase those gorgeous fabrics in a mini quilt top using a “boxed squares” block, using neutral or low-volume fabrics for the outer edges, ensuring that the red fabrics would “pop.”
Sue says
Hmmm… I have a circle project planned as a skill builder for this year. And I love orange!
Bridgette says
I’d use a newsprint or low volume background and turn these into scrappy looking paper pieced arrows. Another idea would be flying geese in a circle, using the white/red low volume print as a background.
Celine says
I’d love to make a wall hanging with images of Japan like a torii gate, cherry blossom etc. Thanks for the chance
Zehrina says
I would love to make myself bag from grey fabrics!
Nuria says
Me encanta el papel con los conejitos!! Pero no se porque pero creo que en rosa quedaria genial.

Would REALLY love to see these tutorials, have I missed them??
Alyce says
Ohhhhh, ha! Um, no. There was lost mail for this one, and then I went away to QuiltCon and then was sick for 3 weeks and it just all completely slipped my mind! I will get back on to this!!!!
Amanda says
Oh yay! I’ve been holding onto my little bundles to see what people did with them. I’m new to quilting.
