For my second entry to the Blogger’s Quilt Festival, I’m entering my Happy Star mini quilt.
I made the Happy Star mini quilt for the last Schnitzel & Boo mini quilt swap on Instagram for @happypigeon – whom I even got to meet at QuiltCon! – and was inspired by a photo she shared on her Instagram during the swap:
Ok, so maybe it just essentially IS this floor design, but hey, it works! And SHHHH! This is just about to be released as a pattern! So check back later this week for that launch!
I’m entering this quilt in the Original Design category, and voting opens May 22-29 (because I know that this is totally your favourite quilt in this category!) so be sure to go check it all out!

Great interpretation of the inlay. And, just have to say that I love all of the pictures of toes that make their way into photos of quilts on floors and now floors themselves.

LOL! Literally!

One question: why is the “confirm you are not a spammer” gizmo always UNDER the Post button?
Alyce says
The frustrating way the plugin is designed, I’m sorry!

Great interpretation of the flooring. I love how things like that can inspire quilting ideas.

Or straight out copying, haha! Thanks 🙂

It looks great! love your inspiration!

Thankfully she knew exactly what I’d done otherwise that could’ve been weird, haha!

Can you share any tips you may have about getting all those seams to come together perfectly in the center? I tried doing a 16-point star and it turned out either a complete mess (1st try), or with a huge bump in the center (2nd try). Thanks!
Alyce says
On my first go, it was a mess too! Weighting it down overnight with a couple of very heavy books helped a LOAD! I’ve adjusted the pattern now to alternate the piecing order so that the seams between each pair of sections nests, which has a trickle on effect to make the overall top sit flatter. It also helps to try and press the “row” seams in opposite directions so that the final seam has nesting seams too.

Such a beautiful design Alyce – and great colour choices too 🙂

Thanks Deborah! It was definitely a lot of fun choosing the fabrics!
