As you read earlier this week for my Blogger’s Quilt Festival post, my Happy Star quilt was made for the Schnitzel & Boo mini quilt swap earlier this year. And now, it’s available as a pattern for you all to make too!
It is a paper piecing pattern that would suit a confident beginner, which means that even if you’ve never paper pieced before but aren’t afraid of a few more seams than a more basic pattern, you could do this!
I had some incredibly helpful pattern testers on this pattern, and they came back with beautiful quilts and great feedback to help make this pattern even more user friendly. And I love how they’ve each used the same pattern and yet created such different looks.
Jenn aka @jeifner has made such a calming Happy Star! I love the pops of print in the outer star border.
Jaime aka @jmzblond brought some real magic to the pattern by playing with fabric placement.
Capi aka @sewcloudy really brought it with solids strikingly set on a black background.
Georgi aka @gms5997 went for a pink monochromatic theme and a scrappy one at that. Definitely Happy!
Emma aka @emerald_hills has used some striking colours, especially the blue and golden yellow together!
You can see some of their progress shots on Instagram under #happystarquilt – if you make this pattern, use that hashtag too!
Normally $4.95, the Happy Star pattern is on sale for the rest of May for just $3.50. You can grab it from my pattern shop now!

The hardest part is taking the first step, lol! Check out my paper piecing tutorial and free feather pattern if you want to dip your toes in gently first – http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/2014/06/free-feather-block-pattern-paper-piecing-tutorial/

It really is so fun seeing how everyone’s fabric choices make th pattern so different. I bet there are even more fun fabric placements and shapes that can come out of it.
