As I mentioned last week, it’s the summer holidays here and when we’re home for the day, the kids have my undivided attention in the mornings. One of the activities they’re keen to do is to sew with me! Which makes me so happy that they want to create like mummy ๐ First of the list was to sew bags for them. Goodness knows they don’t need more, but nevertheless, happy to indulge their want to create, plus it uses up my random stash of pre-quilted kids’ fabrics from all the yochien bags I’ve made over the years!
My son chose to use a space themed fabric, and both kids were spellbound watching me sew it up and talk them through each step and why we do it. I zig-zag the raw edges, so we talked about why you need to do that, and compared it to normal cottong fabric that has the selvedge on instead.
My daughter was excited to use this adorable sushi cat fabric again, as her indoor shoes bag for yochien is also from this fabric. She chose the two-tone sparkly pink handle strapping, she has such good taste, my little princess! She also chose her shoes and Ikea straw accessory… This time, I let them both have a turn helping to guide the fabric through. My little Elna doesn’t have any speed control button, so they can’t do the pedal by themselves (even if they could reach), but they willingly help to backstitch and guide the fabric!
And now, they HAVE TO WEAR MY BAG every time we go out, which means I no longer need to carry their random findings and papers because they have their own bag in which to keep it all, huzzah!

This is so cute. Your kids must have had an amazing time. I have started little sewing projects with my daughter too. Guess its time for making a bag ๐

Aren’t they just the most adorable little munchkins ever?! What a great project to make with children, I’m sure your kids are so proud at what ‘they’ made!

Very lovely children โบ And result: get them to help make the bags and they actually want to use them! A bit like getting children to eat new foods by getting them involved in preparing the meal.

Aw, they’re so cute! I first learned to sew by making little projects with my Grannie. It’s great to spark an early interest in creativity. Thanks for sharing!
