Dear West Coast port workers,
Thank you so much for your strike and the massive delays that were caused in getting fabric shipments to Australia. I mean, I’m all for unions and fair pay and such, but really people, why did you make it take so long for me to finally get my hands on my beautiful Aussie Kona Club bundle from Handmade By Emily*?!
This delicious pile of Kona was carefully selected earlier this year, after spending a lot of time poring over my Kona colour card. A lot. I don’t tend to use solids beyond the background for my quilts, so this was a bit of a challenge for me! So I decided to give myself some boundaries/direction to help – I decided to choose colours that would work together to create the appearance of overlapping transparencies/coloured glass. Thanks goes to Pinterest for bringing this image up in my search for inspiration for this overlapping effect, and the Play Crafts palette builder for helping me narrow down what Kona to use!
My bundle includes: Salmon, Cayenne, Geranium, Prussian and Glacier.
And when used in that order, Cayenne looks like Salmon and Geranium overlapped.
And Prussian is the result of mixing Geranium and Glacier!
This beautiful bundle only just arrived, so I haven’t had a chance to cut into it yet, but I have some exciting plans in store for these pretties. I will be sharing it as I go along!
You can get your hands on this bundle by signing up at Handmade By Emily before Thursday, Sept. 10, and all those who subscribe between now and Thursday will receive a $5 coupon to the Handmade By Emily Etsy store. Plus you guys have it good this month, where all pictures of your Kona bundles (made or stashed!) shared to their Facebook page will go into the running to win a Kona colour card, valued at $38.
Keen eyes may also notice that this bundle works very neatly with three threads from my Kilim Me Softly bundle for the Aussie Aurifil Club from last month… the thread was chosen with this bundle in mind, just taking it in a slightly different direction!
So if you have those threads, your teal 4093, and pink 2435 will match perfectly, and the red 1103 works well too, just a little bit darker. If you want to match the Prussian, you’ll want 2783 Medium Delft Blue, and 2535 Magenta will match the Geranium.
*I’m really joking, I fully understand the importance of strikes. Also, I was gifted this bundle of yum in return for selecting the colours and sharing it with you… I love my job!

I seldom spend money on fabric but if I did, that yummy combination would be on top of my list. I love the way they work together.
