This block design in the book didn’t really do it for me, with that off-centre square. And this is actually one of the randomly chosen blocks I sewed up before the sew-along, so while I have no regrets choosing the fabrics and the placement I did, I still wasn’t too excited about it. But then I saw some really gorgeous fussy cut versions from people who are using a lot more contrast in their blocks, and that’s when I saw the beauty of this block!

Ah Belle, you forced me to sew my first Y-seams, and I’m so thankful! I was originally going to try paper piecing them using Melissa’s brilliant tutorial for paper pieced Y-seams, but the call of using my From Marti Mitchell templates was too strong! That and it made sense in my head for me to try Y-seams for the first time without the added bulk of paper… and if it all went to poop, then it was easier to unpick, haha!

You have such a delicate sweet fabric. Very nice. Makes me want to do a second set of blocks.
