I’m sure I’m not alone with the fact that I have a big box of fabric scraps, right? Well, I decided to experiment and see what I could come up with, using some leftover Christmas charm pack squares. I don’t tend to use many novelty prints, so I always have quite a few Christmas ones leftover whenever I buy a Christmas charm pack. Although, if we’re being honest, the only time I ever do that is when it’s Kate Spain’s annual Christmas line, sooo, yeah…
What you’ll need
2 charm squares – one background, one novelty print
Cardstock or thicker scrapbooking paper, cut to at least 6″ x 12″ and folded in half
Glue stick
Step 1. Carefully cut out your novelty design, about 1/4″ away from the edge of the design.
Step 2. Use a little dab of glue to place it on your background charm. Carefully sew around the design, within that small border.
Step 3. Use a little bit of glue to attach the charm square to your card front. Sew around the edge of the charm square, about 1/4″ from the edge.
Step 4. Write, sign, deliver!

Great idea! Handmade cards with fabric will be great for those handmade gifts I give this year.

This is a timely post, as I was just thinking about using some little scraps to make some bunting cards. Your Christmas card is lovely!
I was wondering if there is anything I should worry about when it comes to machine sewing card stock? I mean, a lot of card stock could dull a needle, I’m sure, but there shouldn’t be any reason why it could do any harm to my precious new sewing machine, right?

If you make a bunch, you’ll probably want to replace your needle, yeah, but that’s all to worry about! It may also be a little slippery if your cardstock is especially smooth, so go slow.

Alyce, I love your cards! My tutorial is for cards, too, but completely different as I went even scrappier than yours (think random stray threads and leftover trimmings that would otherwise end up in the trash). Happy to link up!
