Earlier this week, I shared about the quilts and my general time at the 2016 Tokyo International Quilt Festival, and now it’s time to talk about what I bought! Yes, in case you were confused, I did just destash half my stash ahead of moving overseas… I’m mostly stocking up now on some bits and pieces that are much more expensive to buy outside of Japan! For example, a range of colours and sizes of YKK zippers. But that’s a story for another day. Today, let me share why I bought these…
1 // The latest First Of Infinity – I love the fussy cutting potential of this print! I nearly bought a small piece (smaller than a fat eighth) the day before at Yuzawaya, but held off in hopes of finding a larger cut or yardage later. It seems a half metre the next day was the answer!
2 // A 50-piece pack of 10cm Liberty squares for just 1700 yen (about $20). That’s well over a metre all up of Liberty fabric, and in 50 different designs! Bargain of the day!
3 // Two large fat quarters (1/4 metre cuts) of Modern Background by Zen Chic. I am a huge sucker for any mathematical style prints, especially when they’re low volume. Love me a scrappy low volume background, so they had to come home with me!
4 // A 10 pack of 45mm Olfa blades for 3000 yen ($34) because I’ve heard horror stories of paying that much for just 2 or 3 blades back home. OUCH. Salesman threw in a tiny magnetic box cutter too! Cute!
5// More Clover clips – turns out I bought my first pack almost 2 years to the day! Now I have 60 of them, which will now do me for the whole length of binding for a baby quilt. No more having to do them in halves! These aren’t actually that much cheaper here in Japan, but if you factor in the exchange rate, I get a slight edge buying them here domestically compared to the same in Australia.

Fifty squares of Liberty for $20? What a score!!! I couldn’t have resisted any of the other things either!

Beautiful fabric. Great price on the blades.

Bargain buy for the Olfa blades, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 10 pack of blades here in Australia, I think a 5 pack will cost about $50. Bargains can be found at the Scissorman shop at the craft shows, but they are a generic blade. Love the Modern Background range, I bought a FQ bundle last year.

I am desperately looking for fabric by Itaya Naomi, some of the older prints or even the newer ones. Do you know who carries it, cost and do you know about costs of shipping to Canada. Any contacts? I appreciate your help in this. Thank you, Claudia ev.fonn@hotmail.com

No, I don’t. Try Miss Matatabi – she might have a better idea if she doesn’t already carry the latest.
