It’s been a bit of an exciting week for my stash… It started with Mendocino arriving the morning my husband returned to Japan for 10 weeks. I grabbed a few yards from Gotham Quilts when they had a sale on it a couple of weeks ago, and it was a perfect little happy-squeal moment on an otherwise sad morning. The best news is that my mermaid-loving daughter highly approves of the fabric, even though there’s brown and orange, GASP, and my son thinks the sea creatures are very cool. So I shall file that away as an idea for coordinating quilts should they end up sharing a room in Melbourne, and grab the rest of the prints too… Ah, such a hard life 😉
That day continued on with a bit of (useful and needed) retail therapy at Spotlight after the airport trip. I bought the Luna Pants pattern back when it was first released, and the sew along for it now is the perfect timing to give me a kick in my… pants… to actually make a pair or two. I decided to try two different fabrics – a gorgeous Elizabeth Olwen voile in my favourite print, and a silky smooth grey rayon from Spotlight. I am already loving the fact that Spotlight sells Cloud 9 fabrics! And when all fabric is 30% off… yet another case of perfect timing (especially when you need 3m or so!). I’m a little nervous about sewing the pattern by myself, as the only other time I’ve sewn a proper garment, beyond a skirt with elastic waist, I waited until my experienced garment-sewing cousin was visiting! Especially with the luscious but very silky rayon! Pin pin pin is my plan.
I also had to get a new cutting mat, as I didn’t bring my (metric!) one from Japan, and my mother-in-law only has a small one. I went for the gorgeous aqua one by American Crafts as I loved having that colour in Japan, and it was cheaper than Olfa, haha! It’s self-healing too, which I love, and is 18″ x 24″. It’ll be hard going back to that smaller size, but it means it will fit in a suitcase in July and therefore I will make do until I get a larger one in Melbourne!
And it happened last week, but I guess I can also legitimately document my first quilting magazine purchase back in Australia, April’s issue of Homespun. It called my name when in the checkout line at Target, and I knew that my man, Molli Sparkles, was in it, so I snatched it up on my way past the stand. Must say, it’s grown up since I last read it! Fancy paper, beautiful layout… Go Homespun!
I also got an incredible new book too, which I shall share more about later this month once I’ve had a chance to really digest and process the information packed into it! You can see a little peek of my favourite bits on Instagram where I’m @blossomheartquilts.

I recently bought a new cutting mat (voucher, hurrah!) only to spot pretty pink ones in Spotlight on the weekend. Sigh. I have yet another in boring green.

And I thought I had bought all the copies in Australia! Mwah!
