One of my oldest WIPs has finally been finished! Well, it was finished late last year, but I can finally share it with you now that it’s been published in this month’s issue of Down Under Quilts (#175).
This project was actually started when the Modern Quilt Guild held a Double Wedding Ring challenge, which Google informs me was towards the end of 2013. Which means it took me 2 years to finish this mini! Back then, I was not at all prepared to attempt actual curves, so I took a leaf from Kristy’s book and said, “Just Paper Piece It” (or is that more Nike?). Either way, this was a project started before I even had EQ7, which feels like forever ago now! So I originally drew it up in Quilt Assistant, and got started. But soon came to a crashing halt as my piecing stamina was pitiful back then (it’s still not brilliant, but it’s improved!). It got shoved into a plastic container and under my sewing table, until Down Under Quilts asked if I had any projects I’d like to submit for the Australian issue (#174). I suggested this one, as it’s kinda green and gold (Aussie’s patriotic colours), but decided to design an HST pillow just for that issue and use Ring A Rosy for another issue.
I’m glad I did, because I’m so glad I finally finished it! I really do love it, with the scrappy low volumes and the carefully aligned stripes on the orange part of the stars. I kept the quilting simple so that the rings and the stars would pop out and be the main focus.
Down Under Quilts also shared a sewn block showing how it would look with different fabric placement, and you could certainly rearrange the blocks to create a different look with the stars and rings. Or add more for a quilt or less for a pillow!
Aussies can find it in their local newsagents, and anyone can buy it online. I must admit, it was a thrill to finally be able to pick up a magazine in store and find my pattern in it!

this is a beauty liking both the design and the colour choice.

Are you allowed to sell this pattern in your shop? I can’t really justify the cost of the magazine plus shipping to the U.S. but I love the quilt.

So love it and of course the pillow is just beautiful ! I’m agreeing about the pattern . Is it available? I’m a daily reader so will see your answer on the blog I’m sure.

Oh, and I normally reply to comments by email unless it’s one that answers a question, in which case I answer it here on the blog and you get an email letting you know there’s been a reply ๐
