Ahhh, I finally have my hands on the Sew Sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop! When the team at Fat Quarter Shop emailed and asked if I’d like to help them launch their new club, the Sew Sampler box subscription, I was sooo on board! And when I started seeing them around the place on social media last week, I was so glad I said yes. Why?
1) I always have trouble trying to unscrew the plate on my sewing machine with the big screwdriver/little screws/short space combination. I’ve vaguely heard of Screw B Do before, but wow, they are awesome! Little enough to fit, but chunky enough to get a good grip on them. And very magnetic so you won’t lose the screws!
2) I have a mild obsession with Creative Grid rulers – they’re my favourite brand with clear markings and the awesome grippy spots on the bottom. Always happy to add a new one to the stash.
3) I currently have a pair of these scissors in my hand sewing kit, but they don’t have a cap like this gorgeous teal pair. Perfect to keep in your hand- or on-the-go sewing kit.
And the value for money is pretty good too – April’s box is over $45 of value! Here’s how it all works:
Now, for those like me who live outside the US and is wondering about value for money when you add in shipping… Shipping is $5 for the US, $12 for Canada, and $16 international. Once you add in the exchange rate, no, it’s not exactly cheap. It is certainly a little luxury buy and would actually be a great quilting Mother’s Day present *hint hint* However, as I was saying to Kristy the other day, my three favourite items alone are worth about $30 all up. Which puts you over the cheap international shipping rate, so to buy the “big ticket items” in each box would cost you just as much, if not more, and without the added bonus items.
And what if you don’t like anything in the box? Well, no, the Grow charm pack isn’t exactly “me” and I’m not sure when I would need to make a strawberry quilt, however, maybe a daughter or niece of mine will. And you could use just one block for a pillow! Or they maybe they’ll happen to be a perfect match for a future swap partner to include as a little bonus goodie. So everything is certainly useful.
You can see each item up close and in detail on the Fat Quarter Shop’s blog here. I can’t wait to see what arrives in the next box!
I was provided with a free 3-month subscription to the Sew Sampler box for review. As always, opinions are 100% my own.

Phew! That subscription would be nearly $500 for 12 months, when I think about international postage!! That’s too pricey for me.

I am thinking about this, but can’t afford it yet. Your post showed me what I missed. The Grow fabrics would have been perfect for a wool project – I know that sounds odd, since they aren’t wool, but it would have worked for this one. LOL I might have to see if I can find one of those. Thanks for posting what was in the box. That’s one thing that made me hesitate, other than money. 😉
