In 2012-2013, I signed up for the Fat Quarter Shop’s Designer Mystery BOM. It used Vintage Modern fabric, so why wouldn’t I?! And I enjoyed the program – you got plenty of extra fabric, and the blocks were sweet*. I signed up for the next one, but the fabric just didn’t enthuse me and, uh, I think I made 2 blocks?! So I didn’t sign up for a couple of years. But then this year’s is using Little Miss Sunshine fabric by Vanessa Goertzen, oh yeah!
So I signed up again, and have been loving it once again! The first block, Snowdrop, was designed by Vanessa, and you just can’t go wrong with gorgeous navy prints. I even made a second block from the leftover HSTs from the flying geese!
The second block, Primrose, was designed by Joanna Figueroa and I literally gasped at the pretty pinks when I opened the package! Someone commented on Instagram that there’s a lot of pieces in it. Uh, yes, yes there is! But chain piecing while watching Gilmore Girls made it go by super quick. And it’s so worth it.
And it’s also so nice to have a quick little Happy Sewing project. I’d call it “selfish sewing”, but really, it’s just sewing something because it makes you happy. And when sewing is also your work, it’s nice to have some Happy Sewing just because to intersperse through out your days.
*Those blocks are one of the few missing things from our move, including 5 books I bought and had signed at QuiltCon, waaaaa!!! I suspect the blocks (and other WIPs I’d packed with them) are still with the family members who couriered themback last year. The books? Clueless! I swear they came to Melbourne with my husband in March and were stored with his uncle, but said husband swears they brought over everything he took… ARGH!

What a beautiful block! Love it!

Thank you! I just got the shipping notification for the third block, yay!

Happy sewing – yes, that is a nicer way of saying it than selfish sewing.
I especially like the way the print sits in the centre of the top block.

The stripes? Yes, I love them!

I find it very interesting that the color /tones / and shading of fabric makes such a difference on how we feel about a project. It makes perfect sense to me that it makes a difference on the quilt so I guess it would follow that it makes a difference on how I feel about a project.
Alyce says
Colour is just such a vital part of why I love quilting, so if the colours aren’t doing it for me, it’s super hard to push through! And if it’s a “just because” project, then it quickly falls to the wayside…

Love Snowdrop and the block from the leftover hsts. I have always called my sewing room my “happy place”.

Thank you! I couldn’t bear to leave the little triangles to waste 🙂

I signed up for this one too! I haven’t done a BOM since 2013, so I am loving the change of pace that sewing just a little something a month brings. Much better than powering through an entire quilt in a week (which I need to do to finish my sister’s birthday present 😉 )

Yes, it’s so nice to have different project paces to switch between!
