Pssst… wanna know a secret? I may be showing you the first 10 blocks today, but I’ve sewn about 25 of them now, and cut about 10 more. Holy smokes, I really am keeping up with this project! I had thought I would, given that I’m so excited to be making this for our bed, but when you actually do it?!
I’m truly loving this project. Fussy cutting bits of my Tokyo map fabrics from Passport by Moda, working on my piecing-little-blocks skills, having a project I can quickly make some good progress on by whipping up a block or two in a few minutes… So satisfying.
I’ve already started pondering how to quilt this one. I’ll definitely get it long-armed, I know that much already! I can’t do a 90″ square quilt myself. I’m thinking maybe something like a clamshell or Baptist fan design, to add some curves to all the straight lines going on. But then I may want something a little lighter so that it’s a bit softer/more drapey. And I had also planned on using the leftover map print on the back, but I just remembered that I had planned on adding something fluffier like a brushed cotton to satisfy the soft-and-fluffy lovin’ husband. He and the kids both like warm and soft blankets, and traditional quilts don’t quite satisfy that need!
You can follow the QAL on Instagram by checking out #100days100blocks, and I’m using #tulabluequilt to keep track of my blocks.
Help me?
I’m testing out a new way to help people link up their Modern HST Sampler blocks by uploading pictures to the comments section. But I want to make sure it works, first! So, if you’re willing to help and are making any Tula Pink City Sampler blocks (or heck, any blocks!) would you be able to test out the function in the comments section and try uploading a picture of a block? I want to see if a range of computers/browsers can do it, and even from mobile phones?!

These are really lovely.

Thank you!

Get it quilted in baptist clams! It’s an e2e design that fuses baptist fans and clamshells. It’s the clamshell shape filled with the baptist fan curved lines. Super pretty and classic.
Alyce says
I shall have to Google it!

I love your blue blokcs! I received my fabrics this week. It will be my winter project!
Alyce says
Woohoo!! Can’t wait to see your’s too!

Great memory quilt. I am trying to add my Whirigig Modern HST Sampler block from my iPad. Second try.

I am trying to add my Whirigig Modern HST Sampler block from my iPad. No luck on four try’s. Error message 404, This page does not exist.
Alyce says
Thanks so much for trying, Paula! The app has zero support to help solve the problem!
Ioleen says
Love your blocks. This is going to be a beautiful quilt.
Like Paula tried to add a photo and got error message 404. Spoke with my son, computer nerd, and he said that it was a error on your end.
Alyce says
Sigh, thanks for trying x

Wonderful blocks. That is a great quilt from a great book. Can’t wait to see how yours comes out.
Alyce says
Thanks Anne! I can’t wait either!

I have always wanted to make this quilt as a QAL. So I’m joining the party. I can’t wait, and have some catching up to do. You’ve inspired me, Alyce. The blocks should finish at 6″ square, right?
Alyce says
Correct! So 6.5″ unfinished. Welcome to the mad house!! 😉
Jenni Hunt says
The top right is my absolute favorite – love all those dark blue prints you used!
Alyce says
I am going to end up with a lot of favourites, haha!
Betty C says
Looking good!
Alyce says
Thanks, lovely!
Jodie says
Going well! I’m impressed that I’m keeping up too!
I am on my mobile and can’t see how I’d get a photo into the comments box. Can’t you link a photo stored on your computer directly to those linky things now, without needing instagram or a blog or anything?
Alyce says
You can, but there were several comments that if you click on those ones, all you see is the tiny thumbnail, and it doesn’t make the image larger for people to see.
Susan says
Gosh, your blocks are looking great! I don’t see anything here but the regular comment box, so I’m not sure how to try uploading anything, sorry!
Alyce says
I deleted the plugin as it was giving error messages and there was no answers when I googled it! But thank you x
Carla says
The blocks look great!
Have you tried Quilters Dream wool batting or similar? I have found that the wool comes out lovely and drapey. It might keep the snuggle-loving family happy.
Alyce says
Ah, but it’s the soft and fluffy backing that they’re wanting. Drapey too, yes, but it’s all about the texture.
