I’m so excited to finally reveal this quilt! It’s been something I’ve been sharing along the way on Instagram, and at last, it’s finished and ready to share. Although I was given a crash lesson in Melbourne weather, and I had to resort to a quick photo right before it got packed and taken to the airport to get hand-delivered to its precious recipient…
A few weeks ago, my sister mentioned to me that my nephew’s ninja baby quilt was a bit small on his big boy bed. Which of course I took as the perfect opportunity to make him a bigger one. Well, to be more precise, use my Cartwheeling quilt top design. May I just say how nice it is to have a beautiful quilt, for which I chose the fabrics for, but didn’t have to piece? Just baste, quilt and bind!
I used a super adorable and cosy flannel for the backing. The colours work beautifully with the front, and when I showed my nephew on Facetime, he greatly approved. It’s important to get a nearly-3 year old’s approval!
I wanted to keep it soft and cosy, so kept the quilting light and soft too. I outlined the leafy square feature print, and then free-motion quilted around the diamond-shaped negative space between the navy triangles. I added a dark blue Carolyn Friedlander print for the binding, and this quilt (at 52″ square) is ready for many makings of tents and forts and snuggling under.
Gotta say, lucky I love that little man so much! This is one cosy, cosy quilt. We had the biggest tease of spring this week, and then as I mentioned before, crashed back into cold and wet weather. This was very lovely to have across my lap while I was quilting it!
Don’t forget that this week you can get 20% off all products at Pattern Jam using the code BLOSSOMHEART until the 15th. Maybe you’d like to try Cartwheeling for yourself!
