What a great week this is shaping up to be, because we’re starting it off with the next Making Merry pattern! Poinsettia is a sweet flower-esque block using four different prints to highlight the different shapes formed by the half-square triangles.
This time, Poinsettia includes instructions for setting your block on point. The finished block sizes are the same as always – 6″, 12″, 18″, 24″ and 36″, but setting it on point adds some more size to that, making a great table topper for example. Talking of which, want to know a fun fact about the finishing instructions for all the Making Merry patterns? Mix and match them between the patterns! So you could set Starlight on point using the same cutting measurements and instructions for your block size.
Poinsettia also includes plenty of opportunity for colour play! Most of the Making Merry patterns aren’t overtly Christmas-ey, and Poinsettia will only look (kinda) like a poinsettia if you use a variety of reds. As always, I highly encourage you to make each and every pattern your own, but if you’re wanting the flower effect, use a green fabric for Print 4. And my fabulous pattern testers have done just that – made it their own! We’ve got reds and purples and primary colours and just plain ol’ fun fabric galore.
Jodie aka @jodiescraftroom made a beautiful 6″ block, which on point becomes an 8.5″ mini mini quilt. I like how her quilting plays off the on-point setting!
Gemma aka @littlegemroberts used some beautiful fabrics to make the 12″ block, which makes a 17″ mini quilt when set on point. This is a great size to become a cushion cover! Use an 18″ insert to make it nice and plump.
Joanne aka @turtlequilterjo has made the 25.5″ mini quilt, which is made from an 18″ block. She’s donating this one to the local Project Linus!
Rebecca aka @oneweebird made the 24″ block which once set on point, becomes 34″ square. And she continued on to add a gorgeous border! Wow!
Paula aka @mudpiesandpins made this beautiful purple bloom, and at 51″, it’s a big one too! So good for a baby quilt, or do what she’s going to do and add some borders to make it even bigger again.
So, who wants to make some flowers?! You can get Poinsettia in my store now for $7.95 until tomorrow night (normally $9.95), and I can’t wait to see your beautiful blooms! Be sure to share them in my Facebook group, or on Instagram using #makingmerrybhq and @blossomheartquilts.
