I can’t quite remember just how long I’ve been following Sedef at Down Grapevine Lane, but I know it’s been a few years. I was drawn in by her stunning photography, and her beautiful creations, and the fact that she was from Adelaide too. I do remember it was when there was a lot more crochet projects?? But now?!
Well, there’s still stunning photography and beautiful creations, but now there’s also an adorable fabric line, Sweet Orchard, and a stunning AND beautiful book, Quilt Petite (affiliate link). Which is to say that Quilt Petite is simply Sedef in paperback form, and I was not disappointed when it arrived!
Funny story about just how much I wanted her book… I was in the middle of fabric shopping in Sydney with Molli Sparkles when I saw on Instagram that Sedef had a few copies available in her store. Right there and then, in the middle of choosing blue fabrics, I ordered my copy on my phone from her Etsy store. Yep, serious business.
Now, where to start with what I love about it? I think it goes without saying that the projects are just fantastic, and beautifully executed by Sedef. And I love that the diagrams have the hand drawn look but without looking overly sketch-ey. I suspect some clever type of photo editing? However they did it, I love it!
Do you love Sedef’s photography as much as I do? Then the photography in the book will have you sighing in pleasure as per usual. The colours, the props, the lighting… is there nothing this girl cannot do?! And I love that there’s a wide range of techniques included from foundation paper piecing to English paper piecing to applique to various patchwork piecing techniques to ruffles! If I’m paying for a book (as opposed to online inspiration), I definitely appreciate that it teaches me too. And Quilt Petite is packed full of teaching.
So who would love this book? Anyone who loves learning new skills, machine piecing, foundation paper piecing, English paper piecing, making gifts for friends and family of all ages. As Sedef says, her style is sweetly modern, so even if the sweet fabrics aren’t your usual aesthetic, the projects behind the fabric are modern and fun. I have my eye on the Hexie Doll Quilt for my daughter for Christmas, or maybe my niece!
