Having fallen in love with needle-turn applique thanks to my class with Carolyn Friedlander last month, I decided to act on the momentum and start a new project to take away with me on holidays. I grabbed my leftover Essex linen in Natural, my stash of Liberty, filled my Fat Quarter Shop tin with a rainbow of 50w Aurifil thread, and off I went.
I haven’t had quite as much time as I thought to sew (curious little nephews and nieces nearby to play with instead!), but I do have a vague plan of where I’m going to head with this project. I’m using the honeycomb EPP templates that came as a bonus gift with the issue of Love Patchwork & Quilting that my Emblematic quilt is in as my template to cut out a variety of sizes of Liberty, roughly grouped according to colour.
Here’s where I’m at with my first block, plus another couple basted on now too. I need to add one more medium shape to the top left, and probably a small one to the bottom right for this plum-themed block.
And the idea is that I will have a rainbow quilt of linen and Liberty (yuuum!) at one point in the future! I must say, it’s great to finally be using my Liberty stash in a dedicated project. I will see how far I can go without doubling up on prints… it could be a while! Although I’m definitely lacking in some colours…
