Hands up who loves planners?! ME! Not only is it the only way I can keep myself organised, but it’s fun to use pretty pens and some stickers #plannernerd So when planner love combines with my handmade goals plus supporting a wonderful sponsor, I’m so in. Fat Quarter Shop asked if I’d like to join in the sewalong with the Scrappy Project Planner by Lori Holt, so I chose the Happy Trails quilt.
I originally thought I’d make a table runner, but I decided that as I was making a Jacob’s Ladder baby quilt, I’d make a baby quilt for this one too – one more girly and one more boyish. That way I’d have one of each when I needed a quick baby gift! So that’s what I did, using Altitude by Pippa Shaw for Dashwood Fabrics.
Yep, not scrappy. Unlike Lori, I’m just not a scrappy quilter! But it just goes to show that you don’t need to be a scrappy quilter to use this planner 😉
I’m loving the planner too. I use a different planner for my big picture planning for the year, but the Scrappy Project Planner is perfect for keeping track of my daily to-do lists, not to mention having a spot to keep my quilting project organised! I used the project planner section to keep track of my plans for this quilt, including using the sketch box to draw my first thoughts on how to arrange the layout. It then changed once I’d made up the blocks, but ain’t that always the way?!
I’m also using the other pages to keep track of my WIPs, and for most of them, I’m replacing ‘supplies’ with ‘to do’. Also, if you print off the pattern image of the quilt you’re making at 3″ x 3″, it will fit beautifully in the Colors & Swatches box if that’s easier to keep track of what you’re doing!
If you want to see more of the planner (which is undated so you can pick one up and start using anytime!), check out the video from Fat Quarter Shop!

I was provided with a planner so I could make this quilt. All opinions and washi tape obsessions are 100% my own.

Very cute quilt. Nice to have one of each on hand. I need to make a girly one.

Thank you! Yes, it feels good to be prepared just in case… now to wait for someone to have a baby, haha!
