Last Thursday night, I dropped my husband off at the airport so that he could fly to Japan for 5 days. And yes, I did send a shopping list with him! For those who are new here, my family lived in Japan for four years, returning to Australia in April, 2016. So while I was quite jealous that he was going back (old work purposes), I was also very excited for his return due to his fabric shopping in Japan…
… Because I had requested some Liberty fabrics. A rainbow assortment, if you please. There’s some blue, teal, green, pinks… those trees and sunflowers are some of my most favourite Liberty prints ever, so I’m so happy to have them in some new colours!
I also asked for some Hello Kitty Liberty, to indulge both my love of Liberty and of Hello-Kitty-adorned items. And once again, he chose so well! So sweet, so cute, so yay!
There were some practical requests too – Olfa blades and my favourite quilting gloves. You see, when Olfa blades cost around $10 each here in Australia, and they’re only about $4 in Japan, you request as many as you can find. He was able to get four, which together with the remainder of the ones I already had stashed away before we left, should do me for a while yet.
The gloves are the standard “working” gloves that people use in Japan. But as they’re made of cotton, they’re breathable. And you can see that there are grippy yellow dots on the palm and fingers, making them super useful for free motion quilting! My last pair have lost their elasticity, but lasted for ages, so the two 2-packs he grabbed me from Daiso shall keep me going for a while yet.
And by the way, should you ever find you or your husband/partner/significant other travelling to Japan and are wondering where to start with fabric shopping while there? Look no further than a few tips and tricks I shared about fabric shopping in Japan in this post. Including a Google Maps with the locations! Don’t say I never do nothing for ya 😉
Now, please excuse me while I go pat my Liberty again…

That I do!
Becky T says
Ok
I gotta know.
Did he pick all those colors himself or did he have help in the shops?
Alyce says
Nope, that’s all him. He knows me well!
Ioleen says
Beautiful fabrics. He’s a keeper for sure.
Alyce says
Sure is!!
Julie says
Hahahaha!!! Do you rent him out or can we borrow him? Awesome husband!
Alyce says
MINE!

Your husband knows you well, and did a great job of picking for you. What a sweetheart to be willing to do that for you. Some men wouldn’t. I thought Olfa blades were expensive here! I have mine resharpened by a friend in West Virginia. They can be resharpened a number of times, and his doing it on his wheel lasts much longer than those resharpeners you can buy to do it yourself.
Alyce says
Yeah, they’re around $10 EACH here! Ouch!
